If you are a UK or Irish citizen then you don't need a passport, otherwise you do.
Also, even if you are a citizen but you are non-white, then you may get hassled by the police - not fair but true - so its advisable to bring some kind of ID which shows citizenship. |

You Don't need a passport but you DO need a recognised proof of Identity... and the passport is the most easily transferable.
In theory you can move across the borders anywhere in the EU without a passport but what with terrorism restriction it's best to use them. |

If you were born in either England or Ireland then you dont need a passport,just valid id.....
For the ferry,you should be fine...
However Ryanair airlines would not accept my official Garda signed id card 2 years ago so i ended up being refused to fly by them,
I ended up flying with aerlingus...
You would be best off to e-mail them yourself to find out..... |

To travel to N Ireland from England,you do need a Passport.I was shocked when I found this out because I have family over there and have travelled in the past without one.But,you do need one now.As far as I know its the same for the South of Ireland. |
