Is county mayo [ireland] part of uk?

Show all answers

rustynail
Absolutely not. It is Irish through and through. Take a look at an atlas or even a road map. The top of Ireland to the east is controlled by England. Six of our counties are regarded by the UK as being theirs. Derry Antrim Armagh Down Tyrone and Fermanagh.

County Mayo is most definitely part of the Republic of Ireland, and is not part of the United Kingdom. It's been this way ever since 1921, after which Ireland (except for Northern Ireland) has been fully independant.

With the greatest respect to "rustynail", we in the UK do not regard the counties in Ulster i.e. Northern Ireland as "part of ours". I'm sure we would all be happy to see it join the Republic, which would seem to make a lot of sense.... But it also happens that there is a sizeable chunk of the population who live up there who wish to remain part of the UK.

Is máith liom cáca millís!
People like you make me sick.

Pure ignorance.

obviously mayo is not part of the UK

idaboss
mayo is part of connaught............as CROMWELL said ...TO HELL OR CONNAUGHT

barbara b
Its in Ireland , not UK. But then again its totally mad, and maybe should be out on it's own.
Any one I ever knew from Mayo, has been slightly, if not just mad. And I've said it to them, and they agree. It must be the Atlantic air.
Lovely people, beautiful county, but totally off the wall

No, Mayo is part of the Irish Republic. I have family there ...

sunny_with_showers
As with other answers, absolutely not and not a good mistake to make in conversation with an Irish person either.
Have a look at this website and you can see all the counties and towns of IRELAND - www.mytown.ie

Nooooooooooo. Mayo is in the Republic of Ireland.

As for grpr1964's comment about Ulster...3 of the Ulster counties are already in the Republic. Possibly you don't know the difference between Ulster and Northern Ireland. And for those who state that NI is 'run' by England...tsk tsk. It isn't some little colonial outpost. NI is a part of the UK run by UK government, not by England.

County Mayo is part of Ireland.
