Absolutley Ireland is a very well known country. Given its size and population it's had a very over-represented population in most English-speaking countries. What you would consider "Irish" is one of the most defined ethnic groups in Canada and the United States.

To this very day, there's many communities in Atlantic Canada that exclusively speak the "Celtic" languages that their Irish ancestors brought over hundreds of years ago. If you're from the English speaking world,... which I'm assuming you are... you have been influenced by Irish culture in one way or another. Whether it be figures of speech, the music you listen to... even the leaders you elect most likely have Irish ancestry or connections in one way or another.

I would say generally Ireland is a well liked country... there's not a whole lot of reasons why people would hate Ireland. Unless of course, they've had a bad experience over there, but that would just be plain ignorance. If you're an older Brit you may have bad memories of the IRA, but that was much more a reactionary approach to oppression rather than naked aggression.

from what rock did you crawl under...ireland is very well known throughout the world....tens of millions of people all over the world claim to have irish ancestry,,,even barack obama..people love the paddies,,,

Very well-known in the English speaking world and in Europe. Generally liked, but not universally. Irish people are generally easy-going and friendly, but not all of us are heavy drinkers. Oh, and we speak the best and most poetic English in the world - for a small country, we have had a disproportionally large impact on literature in the English language. Yeats, Oscar Wilde, James Joyce - all Irish.

Ireland is a well-known and beautiful country. It is a shame what England has done to it.
When I said well-known I meant by the Irish in this country and people in other countries. People in this country tend to be ignorant as far as geography is concerned that is why New Mexico had to put USA on their license plates. People thought it was part of Mexico. I won't get into that discussion because it was not part of the question.

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge
It wouldn't be as well known as Burkina Faso or Azerbaijan.

well known, beyond our tiny island size civilisation. specially known to the rugby fans of northern hemisphere oh and music fans worldwide oh and anyone who's picked up a good book oh and most of the population of white america oh yeah and australia. the people of lebanon and palestine know us well also and chad and congo. we are written into the trail of tears among native americans. the viking nations are also akin to us. there is an irish alehouse in most countries in the world. the Dalai Lama regularly sends his blessings. i think there is a bloke (this may be a rumour) who lives in a cave in outer mongolia who hasnt heard. otherwise i suppose its everyone

Kris......
Anywhere that sells Guinness will know of Ireland, so as it is sold in most parts of the world I would say yes, and it is very well liked, I would not live anywhere else, (former UK resident).
