Why is Taoiseach spelt Taoisigh in Irish, when I thought Taoiseach is an Irish word in first place? |
Any fluent speakers out there who can help me. I barely scraped a pass in lower Irish, but does anyone have any ideas. thanks

Well Miss Punnett, you sure do know how to disapear. I've been meaning to return the salutation you left me many moons ago. In the meantime. A fellow American friend of mine lived in Dublin for quite a few years and saw pretty much the whole island -- and the bigger one slightly sout east of it, for that matter -- many times over and never owned a car the whole time.
Although this is not based on personal experience, I would have to say the answer is yes. You can do quite fine without a car.
Really, I don't know anything about this subject. I'm guessing. I just wanted to say hi and welcome back.

I read about bicycle tours of Ireland. If you go out and get the magazine 'outside' or some such other magazine for biking or something, I'm sure there are excursion travel companies that advertise in the back. |

Depends what time of year you go to ireland, the weather is only really nice in Jul and Aug. remember it rains a lot, pretty much all year, and Ireland is a big (ish) country, so you might not get to see a lot if you get a bicycle, you could spoil your holiday by being tired cycling and getting rained on.
Public transport is very reliable. Bus Eireann travel from the bus station on Store Street in Dublin city, to every major town and city in the country. In Dublin city they have a city bus service and you will always find a taxi, same with the other cities Cork, Galway, Kilkenny etc.
Stick to public transport.
If you are starting your trip in Dublin, get a Bus Eireann timetable, you can find them in tourist offices or Bord Failte offices, you should be fine.
Enjoy your trip............ send me a postcard............ |

Rent a moped, its cheap and faster with less effort than a bycycle. |
