Northern Ireland uses the £ sterling, the currency in circulation in England, Scotland and Wales. Unlike the Euro which is used in the Republic of Ireland, £ sterling is not linked to the Euro. Mastercard (Access) and Visa credit cards are in general use and cheques backed by a bank card are widely accepted.
Most large stores will accept Euro currency, however you should enquire first to confirm if there will be a charge attached to this service and to confirm exact rate. |

sterling is the official currency of the 6 counties, but they will take euros in nearly every big store as some of their best customers travel north for w/ends and shopping trips the only difference to be aware of with euros is that the people in the u.k buy euro for 64pence we in ireland paid on the euro changeover 79pence per euro. 1 euro=100 cents= 64pence sterling. at the moment our unleaded petrol is 1 euro per litre. |

Hello,
No, they use either English Pounds and Pence, or North of Ireland Pounds and Pence, and you can mix either with either, but make sure you cahange it all back to your own currency before you leave, and in the norm of things, tou will get smae value whichever ponds and pence you use there. you will only need Euro's if you go into the Republic, also known as Southern Ireland, just one more point, the cost of living is slightly cheaper in the south, for some things like, petrol/Gasoline, especially if you are filling an near empty tank. well whatever you are looking to do, enjoy my country. and Caed Mile Failte to you...
