Yeah you should be okay. Just be careful, keep an eye on your valuables, if youre out late at night grab a taxi home. Some places wouldnt be ideal to be walking home late at night if youre on your own e.g o connell street in dublin
Just dont do anything that you would consider unsafe to do at home and you should be ok. The irish are helpful so if you get stuck or lost, then ask someone for help :-)

You should never backpack alone in any country regardless of how safe it is. What would you do if you got lost? You can never know what might happen.

If you're a guy, probably yes, in theory. Except there are some really terrible drivers on the road, watch out for boogers in flat caps, anyone with a Dublin number plate, and cars from Eastern Europe, as they often forget to drive on the left and may be drunk.

nowadays? I dont actually think that backpacking is safe anywhere!! But I know that people over there are very welcoming so good luck!

Better to go with a friend .... especially if you're female.

Yeah I'd say it's safe enough, safer than a lot of other places in Europe at least!

i should think it is safer now than when my husband and his best friend were there a few years ago, it was them causing havoc from the stories i have heard.

no where is safe these days, keep in touch with a friend or family member everyday so that it is easier to know if something goes wrong, my husband stayed in various youth hostels when he wasnt too drunk to get back there and he thoroughly enjoyed it. sleeping on a park bench he says is a bit cold!!!

Rossie
as long as you don't set up a tent in somewhere like the phoenix park in dublin you will be fine. If you stick to the hostels there will be no problem

It is very safe in Ireland depending on where you go. I general I dont think it is safe to travel anywhere by yourself. I would bring someone with you cause you never know what can happen.

Probably one of the safest places in the world, and the Irish people are lovely and very welcoming. I backpacked there about 15 years ago, and you can camp anywhere you like, and the local pubs are great, things might have changed a little, but I am sure that not by much, you'll have a great time.

Good Luck!

No way. You would be mugged or stabbed or robbed.
