There aren't any college fees in Ireland at the moment, pretty certain they will be making a comeback though.

There is a "registration fee" to be paid at the start of the year though which I think is now around €1500

Flying mop dog
Don't know who is thumbing down Aoife she's completely correct.

This only applies to Irish citizens but;
Currently undergraduates do not pay any tuition fees. They do pay registration fees which this year were approx €1500.

Postgraduate study is not free with most costing €4000-5000.

froggequene
The link in Aoife's answer lays out the conditions for those who qualify for free education at third level. Non EU nationals only qualify in exceptional circumstances, otherwise they are treated as overseas students & charged accordingly.

You must be an irish citizen and have gone through the secondary education system in order to qualify under the free fees initiative. however you must pay a registration fee of €1500 as previously stated by other answers. One thing which hasnt been mentioned is that not all colleges are included in the free fees scheme. Independent colleges such as griffith college in Dublin are fee paying whilst the main universities like UCD, Trinity, DCU,UCC, NUI Galway and University of limerick are included.

Its not free, for some people in Ireland it could be free depending on their income etc.

However for someone from overseas not only is it not free but it is more expensive than it is for an Irish national.

So International students might pay 10k a year vs 5k for an irish person.

agooddub
It's free if you are an Irish citizen and have gone through the Secondary school system here. The fact that one merely holds an Irish passport does not qualify you automatically, you have to have been resident here and sat the secondary school exams.
Tuition is free but you have to pay a registration fee of €1500.

Sort of... but only if you're a citizen and have lived in the country for three of the five years prior to starting. But the way things are looking, that's probably going to change thanks to the recession.

Ireland is an island with two countries on it- Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland has no free tuition.

No, it's not free- we pay tuition, which has greatly increased this year by the way!
I think it's cheaper than other countries such as the US though.
But when you include accommodation, food, bills, travel expenses etc etc it really adds up.

You can go to Harvard FREE now, if your family makes less than $60,000 per year. See my link below for more. Harvard has so much money socked away, they don't even really need people to pay tuition anymore.
