No it isnt, it is its own country called The Republic of Ireland (Eire). Its a bit confusing cos the U.K. is to be seen as 1 country even tho it is made up of different countries (Wales, Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands) that is why its called ´the United Kingdom´. Southern Ireland is not part of this, they are their own country. Hope this helps (-:

No! Southern Ireland is officially known as the Republic of Ireland and is a seperate nation from the UK. If you haven't visited it before, I would highly recommend it. And no I am not Irish!

Well, said Alberto

No ! And don't ask an Irishman that because it'll really irritate him !

No!!

The Irish ( no matter how lovely they are) will not like that!

Christine
there is no country called Southern Ireland, its just Ireland and Northern Ireland, which is part of the UK, Ireland is a republic, and is its own country

to us Southern Ireland is Cork and Kerry

Daisy the cow
No. It is a separate country in its own right.

There is no such country as 'Southern Ireland' so no, it's not a part of the UK.
If you are talking about Ireland, also known as the Republic of Ireland, it too, is not part of the UK.

France or Spain are not part of the UK. Neither is Sweden.

There is a small place called Northern Ireland which 'is' part of the UK.

no!!!!

Southern Ireland refers to the southernmost parts of the island of Ireland like Cork, Waterford, Kerry. No they are not part of the UK. Neither is the Republic of Ireland.

Sorry to the person above, didn't see your answer before i wrote mine

sonj75
I've just read this question and the answers and boy are people stupid!! It really annoys me to think that people can be soooo ignorant. If you don't know what your talking about then people please don't spread the ignorance. ! I don't blame you, you just asked a question but yes it irritates irish women tooo.

Southern Ireland as you call it, we call it the Republic of Ireland, is an independent country, and absolutely not part of the British Isles either. Maps are being changed now to clear up this British error. We are not called Eire either, that is the Irish word for Ireland and we do not use it unless we are speaking our national language.

ems dublin
eh no what type of question is that!!!!!! we are the republic of Ireland. Southern Ireland is only used when talking about the south counties of Irelang ie. waterford! And we are definatley not part of the "British Isles" so all them nob heads that keep saying we are shut it!!!!
hope i was of help!

I am AN IRISH woman from the SOUTH and boy am i offended not to mind asking an Irish man.

Not at all

Clown Fish
No. It is Ireland or Eire. They have the Euro and not the £ which should give you a clue.

Northern Ireland is part of the British Isles.

starla_o0
are you serious? Firstly it is called the REPUBLIC of Ireland, not Southern Ireland. Secondly we are not part of the UK

topcelt

Ireland is called the republic for a reason, ie we kicked the Brits out of the south and are in the process of getting them out of the north so we can become a united country.

cherub

No of course not. Only Northern Ireland. The republic is not in the UK.

Irish_bi_female
I can gather that you have probably learned ny now that Ireland is not part of the UK. I just want to put right an answer that someone above me gave you. The Republic of Ireland is not part of the British Isles either. Also when we say 'Southern Ireland' it means the south counties of the Republic of Ireland, you are only referring to a small area of the republic of ireland.

No its a republic (since 1949). Also there is no such thing as "southern ireland". A lot of people are getting it wrong, Ireland is not called "Eire". That's only what clueless Americans call us! Eire was the Free State, from 1921, but that has gone since we have become a republic. Some people can get quite touchy on the subject, so be careful where you say that!!!

No it's the Republic of Ireland.
They get the chance to elect their own Head of State unlike the UK who have to put up with the same family for generation after generation

red lyn
No No No
The 26 counties are Irish and some would argue that the 32 counties are Irish but the 6 counties making up Northern Ireland are under British rule

the republic of ireland is not part of the uk although the term 'uk and ireland' groups it all together as such

northern ireland, wales, scotland and my home country england are part of the uk

no only northen

scattycat
No, not since1921. Also, it's called the Republic of Ireland officially, not southern Ireland, southern Ireland would imply the southern counties, Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny. And also, over here, we don't say the Republic of Ireland, it's just Ireland unless you're talking about the football (soccer) team.

notbreda
no, although northern ireland supposedly is. feckin' brits.

Erina♣Liszt's Girl
NO,It's the Republic of Ireland!

Garnet
nope, southern ireland is known as the republic of Ireland, we're a seperate country :D
