Are you just going into restaurants and pubs? Then there should be no problem when your parents are there. If they order a bottle of wine, you can have a glass without raising any problems. You could order a drink of something and if there's any problem they will just check with your parents. Even of they refuse, just get your dad to re-order it.
Going to a club will be a completely different story. You need to be 18 with id, sometimes even 21. |

Yes, I'm afraid it is. Plus if you are under 18, you will be asked to leave a pub after 9 pm. |

Yes, But its not terribly strict and If you are with older looking people it wont be an issue.
Just mind your manners with the locals and they will love you for it. |

You'll probably be OK, some places are quite adamant about the age thing - especially if you are from another country as barmen are more suspicious of those from other countries trying to get drink when they are underage. |

you will have a problem around the city center, especially at night when all the pubs have bouncers on the door. But in the day time, when you get into the pub, get your dad to do all the ordering at the bar, while you sit discreetly in the corner.
On the outskirts of the city you have a better chance at night.
Restaurants don't usually sell draught beer in pints, so a few JD and cokes will go unnoticed at the table. You may get away with a glass of wine also, with a meal.
Bottom line is, be prepared to be refused at least 50% of the time. |

yes it is strict !!!!!and it does not matter if you look older or not or don't intend to get drunk. The law is the law.
Prohibition of the Sale of Intoxicating Liquor to Persons under 18 years:
It is an offence for the holder of any licence for the sale of intoxicating liquor to anyone under 18 years of age, to sell to anyone under 18 years for consumption on the premises, to permit anyone to supply anyone under 18 years, and to sell to anyone under 18 years for consumption outside of the premises. Following the passage of the Intoxicating Liquor Act 2003, there was an anomaly in the law concerning the holding of alcohol-free events, and events for young people in licenced premises. The Intoxicating Liquor Act 2004 now provices a clear legal basis for the holding of such alcohol-free events. The Act permits young people under 18 to attend such events in licenced premises (eg a nightclub) or a part of a licenced premises (eg a function room in a hotel), where intoxicating liquor is not being sold, supplied or consumed and any bar counter is securely closed.
Children (anyone under the age of 18) are only allowed in licensed premises if they are with a parent or guardian, but this provision carries certain restrictions. For example if accompanied by a parent/guardian, the child may remain on the premises between the hours of 10:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. ( unless the licence holder feels this is injurious to the child's health, safety and welfare). During the period 1 May - 30 September each year children are allowed to remain on the premises until 10 p.m. Children aged between 15-17 years may remain on the premises after 9 p.m. where they are attending a private function at which a substantial meal is served. All licensed premises must display a sign to this effect in a prominent place at all time and failure to do so can result in a fine of up to 25.40 euro for a first offence and 63.50 euro for a second and all subsequent offences.
If the licence holder is found guilty of allowing unsupervised children in his or her premises, a fine of up to 127 euro can be imposed on summary conviction in a District Court for a first offence. The fine is increased to 317.50 euro for a second and any subsequent conviction. Parents and guardians can also be guilty of an offence under the Act if their children are found to be in licensed premises without supervision. If the parent or guardian cannot prove that the child was there without his or her knowledge or permission, he or she can be fined up to 300 euro on summary conviction.I would also like to ad that alot of bars do not permit children on their premises after 6 in the evening |

There's a massive problem of under age drinking in Dublin and Ireland. If you look older you should be able to get it but there's a lways a chance of them asking for ID.
Most teenagers just ask a randomer on the street to go into an off licence for them |

In recent years especially in the last twelve months enforcement has been seriously increased. However with the bar trade in great difficulty with its own survival, every customer unlike the past boom is extremely welcomed. I'm guessing you won't be asked at all if you say you look a little older and will be with your Father.
P.S have a great time even if its soft drinks your having. |

Well since your not from here, if you get asked for id just say your on holiday and only have your passport and you didnt want to bring it out because you dont want to loose it and you need it to get home=)
If your polite and are like act like your telling the truth they should let you away with it!
Last year a few of my friends came over from new york and it worked=)
Anyway if you dont get into the first club theres plenty more and the chances of them stopping you again are minor=)
Good luck=) x x x x |
