Is there a place actually known as Ballykissangel Ireland?

Just curious if anyone knows which town in Ireland Ballyk is supposed to represent, or if there's an actual Ballykissangel?

Ballyk was actually filmed around Avoca in Wicklow. Lovely place.

sarch_uk
No, the village where Ballyk' was filmed is Avoca in Wicklow...went there a few years ago...had a drink in the pub and visited the church. There is a nice chip shop there! (in the village that is, not the church!)

No there isn't, it was a FICTIONAL tv show

Tony R
Ballykissangel is a fictional place but was filmed on location in Avoca, Co Wicklow.
I like the series and my favourite episode was where they put mock sheep on the mountainside for the visit of the EU officials. Classic.
Some people get hot and bothered about the way the manner in which these types of programmes actually portray us, but you've got to have a sense of humour haven't you.

Orla C
No, it's a completely 'makey-uppy' name, doesn't resemble anything an Irish person would name a town.

Most Irish placenames are anglicised versions of the Irish language - Roundstone in County Galway comes from Cloch on Roin, which actually means rock of the seal, as there are many seals there.

Where the show is filmed is Avoca, County Wicklow.

Short answer, no.

Entirely ficitional.

*Rubs head*

Ow.

Dan N
Yes, there is, but non-Irish are not allowed in the village and the Irish are very secretive about it.
They deny its existence to foreigners.

Its like Star City in the Soviet Union.

The actors in the program aren't allowed to leave the village either. It was in their contracts.

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge

It's Avoca. Ballykissangel was a load of rubbish then and it's still a load of rubbish now.
It was a load of patronising shyyte and wasn't it great how it represented the stage Irish so brilliantly?!

We gave the world such luminaries as Joyce, Beckett, Yeats, O' Casey, Wilde and Shaw, yet the BBC chose to represent us with that muck.
