Isn't it funny that the northern part of Ireland is a different country?

(Not funny-strange, but funny-ha-ha.)

Its not funny at all in either category. Years ago it was common for countries to wage war on other countries and then occupy them. The British occupied Ireland for a long time and still occupy Northern Ireland. It is not a separate country it is part of the island of Ireland and just a section (6 counties out of 32, Armagh, Antrim, Down, Derry, Tyrone, Fermanagh) which is still under the ruling of Britain. It is hard to go into the whole history without getting political but take it from an Irish person it is not at all funny. My guess is that you are from the other side of the Atlantic and it seems to be hard to get the real facts there. You could do a bit of research and answers is not really the place to get accurate information, nor is Wikipedia as it is only entered by users, some of whom know what they are doing and some of whom dont.

Funny Ha Ha? I can understand how someone might think that....however once you educate yourself and you get rid of the ignorance that unfortunately has made peace a difficult hope to hold on to for Northern Ireland and Ireland as a whole, you see that it is neither Funny HA HA or Funny Strange. It becomes a heart wrenching reality that haunts your dreams when you see the faces of Ireland's Children...(read Ireland and Northern Ireland's Children).

I'm so glad one of us thinks it's funny-ha-ha.

SwampFox
It is frankly disgusting. But it's something that a certain country is well-known for.

Try this out and see if you think it's funny: 26 + 6 = 1.

stevie
you are funny strange... what a bad sense of humour.. you find genocide funny yea? well each to their own..

xxerinxx
its not the 'northern part of ireland' its Northern Ireland, just like Wales is conected to England, and Scotland to England as well. the northern part of ireland would be Donegal, Leitrum and Monaghan.

Rossie
isn't it funny that there are countries at all, we should be all one big country (as in planet earth), same language, same currency etc it would save us a whole load of hassle and grief

i suppose the really rich in society would never allow that because they would have most to lose in this situation

sheamles
Yes it is funny that one country still holds a portion of another coun try in a state of unwanted occupation...Yes it is funny that there is a semi-undeclared war in between people of two difference sects of basically the same religion. Pretty freakin hilarious. *end of sarcasm*

Flying mop dog
I don't see why it is.

freetibetfighter
Northern Ireland isn't actually a country, it's a constituent country of the UK.

I would consider it funny-strange since it used to be part of Ireland. Wonder what happened.

ps. There're a lot of things I want to say here but I think it would be best for all if I didn't.TAL
