well you start secondary school and age 11 or 12, you sit your junior cert after three years. you take english, irish [unless you've got an exemption from the dept. of education and science], maths, cspe and four options. some schools choose whether or not students sit religion [my school decided not]. some options require a project and/or folio [MTWood, MTMetal, Home Economics, CSPE, Art, science]. home ec also requires a pratical cooking exam. |

Personally,I just turned 15 before the Jr. Cert and I did it this year.
It depends on what age you start primary school. You spend 8 years there, and then you move onto secondary school. Then you have to do 3 years of coursework in secondary school, and in 3rd yr,you do the junior cert. Then, after the jr. cert.,you move into 4th yr,or in some schools transition year. If you do ty,you have to do both 5th yr and 6th yr,but if you go straight into 4th yr,you only do 5th yr. Then you do the leaving cert in 5th(or 6th) yr. You also have the option of repeating the leaving in 6th yr. From 1st yr onwards, you do english,irish,maths,history,geography,cs... and music(which are options in some schools) and you pick your options. You then do the coursework and have small exams in October,@ Chritsmas time, and then the Summer exams. When you are in leaving or jr cert years, you don't do the summer exams,as the State Exams start in early June. In some subjects, you must do a project for the exams. These subjects include Art Wood Tech and Home Ec. In the languages, you have must do a listening exam as well as a written paper. In CSPE ypu must do an action project, and the report for this 'action' is worth 60% of the CSPE exam. In music, you must also do a practical, and a listening exam as wall as a written exam, and there is also a practical in Home Ec. In Jr. Cert art,it is not a written exam, but it is a drawing exam-still life and a life form. In science, you must do 2 out of 3 investigations, and the three choices are chemistry, physics and biology. You must also write up all the mandatory experiments you have done since 1st year in an experiment copy and of course do a written exam. I think I have it all covered!! =D. |

Junior Cert? You've done 3 years of secondary school, and you're usually 14 to 16 years old. |

Pyro, you are talking about the Leaving Cert, and the question was about Junior Cert which takes place at the end of 3rd year in secondary school. Average age would be 15, and you are tested on the knowledge you have learnt in the previous 3 years. For some subjects like woodwork or art, there is a coursework element, but for most subjects it is simply a written paper. |

Your around 15-16. Im going into the jc and I'll be 15 doing it. You do the jc in your 3rd year at school. Yes you do spend time doing coursework, some subjects have projects and home ec has practicals in cooking and craft. CSPE has an action project-mine is a visit to the dail. Science, you have to write up experiments in a copy and your copy will be graded. You also have aural (listening) exams in Irish and French. |

you start playschool at 3 or 4 or years of age then spend normally 1 year there. In here you learn basic skills like social, and sharing and poems, rhymes, songs etc.
You start primary school at 4 or 5.Then you start primary school, which you attend for 8 years, it is composed of junior and senior infants, then 1st class up to 6th. So you leave at 12 or 13 years of age
about the course work for the JC the following subjects have points based on other things
home economics (you cook and sew)
woodwork (you make something made of wood and write a report on how you made it)
CSPE or civics, (you do a projects on how you helped the community)
Leaving cert
in all the languages you have an oral exam and you have to talk to an exam superintendant for 15 minutes to prove your language skill and you are amrked accordingly
woodwork (now called construction) the same as in the jc
geography you do a project on rivers
homeeconomics -same as above
HOPE I HELPED!!!
Then you start secondary school at 12 or 13 years of age, thsi is 6 years long, (but 4th year is optional) in this year you do work expreience, learn how to set up a business and very fun stuff !!
You do the Junior cert in 3rd year, when you are 14 or 15, at this stage you have 11 years of school behind you not including playschool, coz thats technically not school
then when you do your leaving cert you are 16, 17 or 18, it depends whether or not oyu did 4th year and what age you started school, you will at this stage have 13 or 14 years behind you, (again depending on whether you did 4th year) |

You are normally around the 17 or 18 mark, although it depends on whether you do 4th year or not (optional)
You go through all of secondary school until the end before you do it (which is 6 years, from the ages of 12/13 - 17/18) and its basically just an exam of all the info you studied in 5th and 6th year which is a bit rediculous cuz most people cant remember what they had for dinner 2 days ago let alone 2 years worth of boring stuff.
EDIT) Ha ha oops you are totally right. I read Leaving Cert for some reason. Well you dont need to ask a question for the LC now!! |
