we voted against it because it would have lost us our rights and laws.
eg: lisbon countries go to war - we end up going to war! i choose no to lisbon! |

They wanted us to vote for the Lisbon Treaty, they did not want us to say no, everyone assumed it would be a formality.
Most Irish people voted no because they had no clue what it was about & we still have no clue what it was about - no country should be expected to blindly accept something it doesn't understand.
This thing about Irish history, are we going to stop reading from the Republican hymn sheet anytime soon? |

can we ever ask a q without refering to the english. stop kidding yourself we are piss without the eu. celtic tiger my **** we fckn live off their handouts. we would not even be able to afford the dole payments without their money. over 70% of irish farmers would be working at a massive loss without the eu. so where else would we thrive, tourism, we have no manufacturing base and thousands of empty houses and the highest rate of personal debt. we should doff our caps and say thank you before they kick us out for spouting on about our precious freedom that we think we have.
dont fckn lecture me about irish history you cnt. im from sligo my family history is one of fighting the imperialists the black and tans raided our family home. check out my coat of arms as my avatar. thats all history england is a different country and people. we need to stop blaming the brits for every fckn thing that happens. |

...and apparently they are going to keep making us vote until we cave and vote yes! Perhaps the people of Ireland would have had a little more confidence in the Treaty if even one of the politicians who promoted the 'yes' vote had bothered their head to read even the summarised version and were able to say something a little more illuminatingng then 'we are all doomed if you don't vote yes'.
They are going to have to a little better then the generic style scaremongering tactics previously employed, which puts me in mind of my mothers warning that smoking would stunt my growth...for the record it didn't!!

The Irish were nothing better than a third world country, spouting culture etc., prior to the e.e.c. Now with their pie in the sky Celtic Tiger economy, funded again by the E.U. and the U.S., going down the shitter the only recourse for the dole majority in the country, who has only one thing on their minds, "who's going to pay me for doing f@#@ all now" is to complain about Lisbon. Hmmmm how about getting a job, how about growing a manufacturing base, how about about doing something other than expecting the E.U. and other countries to raise your children. Hmmmmm |

The Republic of Ireland done well in Europe.
(After all the hand outs to bring them up to standard.)
Ireland recieves more than they give in.......
Now most of that has stopped as the hand outs go to the new poorer countries who just joined.
If the money was still rolling in, would you all be in favour of Europe again? |

As des bishop said, they'll keep going until they get it right. However, I'll keep voting no until I understand what the bloody thing is |

I think that the Lisbon Treaty and the implications of it were never properly explained. This is why Irish people rejected it. If you can't make an informed decision, you'll reject something outright. |

This seems to be a very touchy subject that stirs up strong emotions. So let's look at the problem and keep your calm :-)
If the vast majority of member countries want to move on and accept the new treaty, wouldn't it be best if they did so? Members that don't want it can be handled by a different member "level", kind of associated member.
What will probably happen now is that all members will accept the new treaty except Ireland.
How should this be resolved?
And I don't see the lack of referendums as a problem, I have voted for a government. I expect them to read the treaty and decide for me. I have my own job to do, they are paid to do so. |

The British fought a war too, to be free from European dominance and some of us are still fighting our governments surrendering our sovereignty to unelected bureaucrats in Brussels. The Lisbon treaty is a meaningless piece of paper, you can vote whichever way you want public opinion means nothing in Brussels. You will be part of a federal Europe |

The Treaty of Lisbon would establish a legally quite new EU in the constitutional form of a supranational European Federation. It would thereby revolutionise the constitutional and political order of the Union itself and its Member States.
The Treaty of Lisbon is an attempt to construct a highly centralised European Federation artificially, from the top down, out of Europe’s many nations, peoples and States, without their free consent and knowledge.
I voted NO once - and I shall vote NO again! |

The Lisbon Treaty was to bring greater unity to Europe. Unfortunately it passed because the people believed the lies of Sinn Fein about abortion, conscription, increased taxation etc.
You appear to me to be a bigot. Did you know the Irish fought for the English king (voluntarily) in the English Civil War? |
