Its very expensive to live in. second most expensive country in europe.
The further away from dublin the cheaper it is. My sister inlaw is renting in dublin and paying 2000 a month rent for 3 bed house!! Im livng in galway and paying 900 for 3 bed. Eatin out is roughly 30 euro for 3course meal. The price of dairy products is rising.
litre of milk=1.20
loaf of bread=1.80
litre of vodka=30euro

It's hugely, hugely expensive to live in. As for jobs, it depends on your experience - if you've no problem with working in McDonalds or somewhere like that, you should get a job easily. If you're a bit fussier, then have a look at some sites like www.irishjobs.ie or www.loadzajobs.ie to get an idea, although if you're only staying for a few months I'm not sure what your chances are of getting a 'good' job, but minimum wage here is about 8.65 euro or so.
Dublin is the most expensive place to live. If you go to another city, like Galway or Cork, or even one of the rural towns, you'll find it easier to get by. Of course, hostels and accommodation will be more plentiful in Dublin and the other cities, so that's a choice you'll have to make.
If you do decide to go, go during the summer, when the weather is more likely to be good - Ireland can get pretty rainy... |

For short term accommodation, you can expect to pay at least 75 euros per week (in cities like Cork, in Dublin more) in shared houses. You can look at daft.ie for sharing options, or at some local university when you arrive.
If you plan to stay longer, then monthly rents are usually at least 300 euros + bills, again shared.
Food is more expensive than in US, eating out will be at least around 15 euros for dinner for one.
Irishjobs.ie and jobs.ie have some good places to look for jobs. University cities are perhaps the best place for quick find jobs. |

If you are an EU national you can work in Ireland without problems. But if you're not (i.e. American) then its illegal to work without a permit. |

I just spent about 2 weeks both in Dublin and Kilkenny. In Dublin things were pretty expensive and comparable in price to NYC. (A meal at Burger King cost me 6 euro, or like $8.50) But once you get out into the country things were cheaper. If you stay in hostels and scrimp, you could probably get by on about 50-60 Euros/ day. Have fun! |
