the other answers are nearly right but not quite.

The prefix for an international, call is NOT always 00, it's a common mistake. Anyone making an international call from the USA or Canada can tell you that.

May I suggest you dial +353 . This way if you are in any doubt what the number is, the phone will work it out for you.

just change that first 0 by +353 followed by the rest of the number: 8something.
so what u have in the end is like: +3538something

Republic of Ireland is 00 353 .... Northern Ireland is also 00 44, I believe, but not from the Republic. Check your phone book where you are.
