Ehh yes and no.Its the same in the way of consumer products like you know Nike,Sony,McDonalds etc.But it is the people and scenery that makes our country so unique. As you probably know we have different words for different things eg Parking lot=car park,Bacon(as in bacon and eggs)=rashers, jelly=jam etc but it is harder to explain other areas of our culture so ill just throw out a few examples:we drink lots of tea averaging about 4-5 cups a day i suppose its like americans drink coffee,we have our own national sport Gaeilic Football and hurling, officially the fastest sport in the world,we have our own language Gaeilge which about 95% of our population know but just dont speak it because we couldnt be arsed(be bothered) however it is written on roadsigns, taught in schools spoken on tv and in select parts of the country but dont worry u wont need to know it.Our food is different in small ways.We have all the stuff you have but the traditional dishes are very popular such as lamb stew, coddle and we nearly always eat spuds(potatoes). Its 18 to drink nd smoke and yes it is very expensive here due to double digit economic growth in the past 15 years we turned from a country where families emigrated into one of the richest in the world in that short time. But dont worry about high prices because we are very well paid(min wage Euro8.65/hour about 12 dollars an hour and i think your min wage is like 4 or 5 dollars/hour haha)Irish people are very freindly there are about 250,000 people from eastern europe who have immigrated into our prosperous country and i suppose their freindly aswell. The lingo is different here aswell.Irish words have been brought into everyday english eg if you want 2 ask sum1 "hows it going" you say whats the craic or whats the sceal(sceal is the irish for story)There are so many other unique things about us but i dont want to type for ages so ill just say theres something about ireland that you dont get anywhere else but no1 knows exactly what it is, even the irish ourselves and perhaps it is that feeling that noone can explain that makes us so special. You'll know the feeling im talking about when you come over i just cant describe it!!!

it is very different from the US, but not in the ways you might think. We have McDonald's and sh!t like that.
People , if are nice to you, are nice because they want to, not because it's in a job contract saying you must be nice.
The sense of humour is very dark, and ironic, th language used is most often peppered with obscenities, but nobody really cares about that.
The beer is stronger than the US, and you have to over 18. There is a smoking ban is the workplace, so that includes bars, shops hairdresser etc.
Galway is nice, and there is public transport, that is usually very reasonably priced.

For many things Ireland is very different from the United States. You can drink and smoke if you are over 18 and they're very strict about it. People are very friendly and helpful. It's more expensive than the US but if you have a decent job you can live comfortably as wages are quite high. The cities are very small and nowhere is too far from the countryside... Just consider that Dublin is the capital and has a population of about 1 million, and the second city is Cork with less than half a million. You can easily walk all around a city, or take the bus... but keep in mind public transports are really bad so if you have to go out of town for work or pleasure it will be a pain if you don't have a car. But still, I lived here for 8 months before I bought my first car and it wasn't too bad.

i'd would say ireland is a lot different than the US but it depends on where u want to live and where u live right now.
u can't smoke and drink til u r 18. u can drive when u r 17. if you want to look at car prices then look at this http://www.cbg.ie/
can't smoke in any public places or workplaces. generally the people are alright but it isn't always irish people that u would be talking to because a lot of polish people live here now.

People in Ireland are mostly friendly, but there are good and bad like everywhere. Regarding buying a car, it's just as well if you can't afford it for a while...driving on the narrow roads is one of the scariest experience you will have had in a lifetime :). It's so incredibly beautiful there! Best wishes!

i live in ireland and it really good the irish love the americans
