Movin to Dublin for 6 wks. Work in rathfarnham. Apt in Custom House D1. is this an o.k area. Too far from work?

I found a short term flat share but Im not sure about the area. also I'll be working in Rathfarnham and don't want to spend to long travelling to work. Is this a viable option. I don't know Dublin that well.

Rathmines is a 50 minute bus ride from O'Connell Street, through very congested city traffic, so allow another 15 minutes on top of that.
The walk to O'Connell Street from Customs House is another 10 minutes. So give yourself an hour and a quarter to go to and from work.
The Custom House area is in the heart of the Financial Centre and close to all the city center bars and clubs, so no need for taxis at night ( a big + ) Rathfarnham is at the foot of the Dublin mountains with some good local pubs but is mainly residential with no night life.
I would look for a flat share somewhere about half way to Rathfarnham and would consider looking at Rathmines and Rathgar, which is real Flat Land and has a buzzing night life.
Enjoy your 6 weeks.

It's Outrageous!
To be honest, although CHQ (Customs House Quay) is a great, modern area, you will have one hell of a morning commute to Rathfarnham.

This link for rental properties in that area should be really useful for you:

Custom Hoese Quay is a fantastic area. The journey to Rathfarnham is a bit of a drag especially at Peak times. If your fit you should try and pick up a decent bicycle and cycle, it will take you about 45mins to cycle. The other alternative is a Bus or Taxi. The busses leave from O'Connell Street about a 4min walk. There is a Local Taxi Service Excheckers Cabs 8343435.. Enjoy your stay \_/ Slainte..

I think agooddub has it summed up.

You'd be quicker commuting to London from Dublin 1 than to Rathfarnham!! It'll take you at least an hour to make that trip and longer on most days.

Unfortunately, as you are only on a short-term contract, unless you pay a h3ll of a lot of money on rent then you are unlikely to find a short-term let outside of D1. You're best bet is speaking to your employer (and if they are aware of your circumstances then I'm surprised that they haven't assisted you with finding somewhere to live?) or to a corporate let specialist.
