Moving to dublin, best aras to live? |
it will be me and my boyf, we are hoping to find a 1 bedroom flat. Been told south dublin city is best and also drumcondra is nice area even tho its northside...is this correct??
Also will it be affordable for us to get a 1 bedroom?

You should have a look at www.daft.ie, that will help you to get a good idea of prices. You'll probably be paying around the 1,000 euro mark per month, at least.
Most areas in Dublin are fine to live in, and Drumcondra is quite nice - but you seem to have a bad view of the northside, which is wrong. There are good and bad areas on both sides. Glasnevin is another nice area off the top of my head on the northside that's nice.
I've always lived on the southside - areas I personally have lived in are Donnybrook, Ballsbridge and South Circular Road. All fine, no problems with any of them, and all quite close to the city centre. Another nice area is Rathmines - it's lively and has a fun atmosphere.
Just remember to find somewhere well connected by public transport - the last thing you want to do is spend hours on Dublin Bus in the morning!

Yes, South Dublin (particularly around postcode 4) is a very desirable place, but be wary that house prices may be high. |

If you have not got jobs yet you will find it quite hard to get one while trying to get accommodation. Its is very expensive to rent flats and if you do not pay a lot you will end up in a grotty dump. Northside is just as good if not better for travel to the City Centre as the Airport is situated on this side and also the Tunnel has freed up a lot of the traffic travelling into the city. Be very careful where on the Southside you pick as there are many rather rough areas there too. You will know which side of the city you are on by the Postal number. Dublin is divided into even and odd numbers, even on the south and odd on the North.( Except for where the President of Ireland lives, which is on the Northside but has an even number! '8' Strange but true. Would advise at least one of you to have a job before you come here. |
