I live in Ireland so it's just like anywhere else when you live there but on holiday now thats a different story!! If you go at the right time of the year when the weather may be good it would be lovely!! Some places are really nice Co. Clare and Co. Kerry are really beautiful and quite historical. Dublin is nice but a tad expensive cos it's the capital. Galway is a mad city with lots of Irish pubs, tourists, students and history. Maybe you should go on a tour.Oh you have to go on a sightseeing tour bus in Dublin or Cork. Hope you have fun. You'll love it!!

Not to be rude, (I am an American with irish background too) but technically you are home. You are Irish American - you have Irish heritage, but your family has been in the US for over a 100 years. You are American, as am I. My family came over more recently - but I wouldn't call Ireland my home. That makes no sense. You can have a feeling of kinship to the place that your family came from - but it is not your country really.

Ireland is very nice, friendly ...I highly recommend visiting and looking up the town or village that your ancestors came from. There are plenty of resources on the web about Irish history and current time culture as well.

OK its not your "home" if you werent born there.....i hate it when americans do that....grrrr

anyway....it is beautiful, but it very much depends where you go....
Dublin etc...is very urban and modern, while the west side is really rural and old-fashioned and green
If you are visiting to see the culture, id definitely recommend the west, possibly Co. Clare
Its very beautiful

It's a beautiful country full of friendly people, and life is still easy and relaxed comparing to most European countries. But if you come just don't go on about how you're Irish when your ancestors left the country 150 years ago. The real Irish don't like it too much and it is ridiculous in all fairness.

OMG its amazing. It's the greenest place ever, lots of sheep, and lots of walking. What part of Ireland are you from? Ive been to Northern Ireland. Belfast. I saw Giants Causeway, Dunluce Castle, Careek a dee bridge, both St. Patricks cathederals, the potato chip factory, marble arch caves. Its so beautiful. Lots of castles.
I've been there twice first with friends and second time to visit friends and I got engaged.
It was worth every penny- and Im going back next year!!!!:)

Hi! :) I am just like you. None of my immediate family is from Ireland, but all my ancestors are from there. My biggest dream is to move to Ireland when I am done high school.
Anyway, from what i've heard it is really green and it rains alot and is very cloudy. Also, my mum said that it hardly ever gets past 24 degrees celsius, so it's sort of cold if you're used to the weather in america or southern canada. Sorry I couldn't think of anything else, but I love talking about Ireland. :)

I think you should definitely plan a trip over soon. I think you would really enjoy it, especially looking back into all your family history. There is also a great Irish American folk park place (I am sorry I can't think of the name) but it is a museum that is all about the immigration of Irish people to America and it is really interesting. It is a pretty small country so it would be great if you could try and see as much of it as possible. My husband is from Belfast and I am from California we lived in Ireland for 5 years, I really liked the way of life there, in some ways it is kind of old fashion (i.e of course there is big supermarkets but most the women I knew would walk at the bakery for bread , the butchers for meat fruit and veggies from produce stores, etc) The natural beauty there is really amazing, it is so green and the hills are amazing . All the history and castles of course is all very impressive too. And the pubs are great. Go soon and have fun! The people are really friendly too.
