The potholes will be fixed when your local politician wants you to gratefully remember and put an X in the box beside his or her name. And you may even get a personal phone call (as I did) to remind you to do down and do your civic duty. Watch carefully for potholes disappearing about the first week of June. |

I live in Donegal, if the potholes increase we'll have to stop using the roads and travel through the fields instead, much smoother journey. |

I also live in Donegal.Up here if you see two ears sticking up out of a pothole it's not a rabbit. It's a donkey. |

I should be doing something else

I have to say you are right!
I'm lucky because my work has moved offices to an area with no parking so I now have to get the train in, which is good in a way because I don't think the suspension in my car could take any more - the only thing I have to worry about now is the state of the trains! :) |

The state of the roads in many parts of rural Ireland is a disgrace.
My parents live two miles outside a small town in Co Kerry.
The road is so narrow that two cars cannot pass by side by side.
When there is an oncoming car, it is a matter of pulling in on the verge and hoping for the best or being lucky enough to happen by a house which usually has a yard or two where one can pull in with greater ease and safety.
Also the potholes..everytime I return to visit, I am given an update on 'recent pothole arrivals' and exactly where they are.
They retired there almost twenty years ago and I can honestly say that the state of the road is worse now than it was twenty years ago.
The thoughts of an election...hmmm...can the country afford one right now? Who is the alternative...Kenny or Gilmore?....hmmm....oh dear.. |

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge

Sher now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Concert Hall. |

I put it to you sir, that the opposite is in fact true. I would argue good sir, (wait are you a dude or a chick, i forgot to check) that the potholes decrease coming up to an election because when the time comes of the election, MR. Michael Lowry T.D. North Tipperary (we love you Michael!!!!), can point out all the lovely new road works carried out and say... "YES! THAT WAS ME WHO FIXED THAT POTHOLE ON THE CURNABULA CROSSROADS! ELECT ME AGAIN AND I WILL REPRESENT EVERY POTHOLE IN TIPPERARY FROM ROSCREA TO THURLES (not clomnel, because he only covers north tipperary dont you know)" And we like the sheep that we are, will go out and vote for him again, we are that stupid! (WE LOVE YOU MICHAEL!!!!) |

Pot holes just save the council the expense of putting in speed bumps lol. Hope there is an election, get this crowd of ******* out.
There is a pothole near Scartaglin church (Kerry) that is so deep it would have your wheel off if you didn't drive around it. The roads near me in North Cork are an absolute disgrace, patched and patched so many times it makes your teeth rattle driving down them.
There is one pot hole that keeps opening up on the way into town, the council send this big yellow vehicle round that pours stuff it in and then they bugger off, leaving the passing cars to flatten the heap of tarmac/chippings ? Not even sure what it is they fill it with.
About 3-4 months later, after its rained continuously, its all got washed away and the pothole is back. This has happened 8 times to my knowledge in 5 years. Why don't they get a road roller and do the job properly? |

Yeah it's a bit of a conspiracy, i think the local politicians are out at night digging up the roads. If you fell into some of the potholes round here you'd never get out of them they're that bad. |

well there's the local elections on June 5th and it would be the responsibility of the local politicians to fix the potholes
i live near the louth-meath border (on the good side of course) and i noticed the meath county council where fixing the roads out where i would cycle and i could tell easily when i got into meath as the road amazingly smoothed up at the bridge into meath. but they must have had a quantity surveyor out to tell them the exact point |
