We're in bad shape but we're hardly Zimbabwe broke.

Christine
our economy has shrank quicker than Zimbabwe, but we have a strong currency, and believe it or not, we don't have a despot as a leader...yet. LOL

froggequene
No, there's a vast difference between Ireland's circumstances & Zimbabwe's, for starters we're not being torn apart internally by unacknowledged civil war

the article said that only economies like that of Zimbabwe were worse than those like irelands. a wee bit of a difference

Yep sure is. No, seriously were not that bad but we are in a very bad way, unemployment is at 11% today, 6 months ago it was only about 3% so that gives you an idea, Apart from Iceland, we are the hardest hit country in Europe because of the Global recession and times are tough, but hey, its not the end of the world... well as long as that virus does'nt make its way over here!

First of all...it would be very difficult for a country to reach the extremes that Zimbabwe has reached. People there are literally dying of hunger. Inflation is running at over 1000%...govt thugs beat up any one who voices discontent...

A $100 trillion note was issued there in January (approx value 225€)...that is simply unthinkable in any country within the EU.

Iceland's economy is a lot worse than Ireland's...

Ireland is being affected big time, but not a huge amount different to how they were being affected in the 1980's. VAT then was 35%!! A lot of things come and go in cycles...but to make a comparison with Zimbabwe is rather stupid, in every sense of the word.

I thought we were broke already? Hurrah things aren't as bad as I thought I'm going to buy a bottle of champagne to celebrate.

Edit : Have precisely €7.35 left in my bank account, will buy a bottle of Aldi "special reserve" Czechoslovakian red wine to celebrate, I'm sure it will be just as good.

nikki!! (ex-anti jonas)
