Opinions about Ireland!?

So me and some friends are wanting to take a trip to Ireland and have some questions from those of you who either live there, or have traveled there. What are some must sees? Which cities are the most beautiful? Is it a very expensive trip? Anything you have to say will help. thanks =D

Nov 1st will be the start of my 4th trip to Ireland since 2000. It's an amazing place with friendly people. If you're going to the west coast, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren are musts...Giant's Causeway in the North, Newgrange in the East and the Wicklow Mtns in the south east. Try to stay out of the larger cities though if you want the "true" feel of Ireland. The larger cities are more cosmopolitan and are becoming more generic...to me, Dublin is just like another Boston, Massachusetts

Ireland doesn't really do cities that well, but the ones to catch are Galway, Cork and Kilkenny. Limerick and Waterford are also good too.
Dublin is kind of on its own because it's still very much an English city, in the sense that for hundreds of years it had an English influence while the rest of Ireland didn't.

Much better to get out into the countryside. Ireland does wild, wet and windy countryside and small towns very well, but the public transport system is not good so you would need to hire a car - which can work out expensive. Accommodation can also be expensive, but I assume you'll stay in hostels?

Do your research. Get a copy of the DK Eyewitness Guide for Ireland, and read it.

take a trip around west cork-views are fantastic and restaurants are even better. glandore, union hall, baltimore are great places to visit. the pubs never chose...well in union hall anyway! cork city is a really beautiful it was european capital of culture in 2005. ireland is a pretty expensive place but its good value for the service you get and people are really friendly...well in west cork anyway. i went down to cork last year with a few of the girls and we stayed in pier holiday homes in union hall. it was great because we could walk to the 4 pubs that are in the village! great night life in skibbereen aswell. we went to cork city a couple of times during our trip and we got to see all the sites! i would really reccommend it!

Well I live here...and I'd really recommend taking the "ghost bus" through Dublin city centre at night time, it's pretty cool!
I'd recommend visiting temple bar (also in the city centre) and grafton Street. There's a great atmosphere and at night temple bar is great!

And yes, everything is very expensive here, but worth it! =)

Agree with Orla about the cities. Temple Bar was a neat area in Dublin, but the real feel of Ireland, for myself, is in the countryside and the small towns/villages. There are plenty of pubs in even the smallest so you will find fun gatherings and good food where ever you go. It is expensive now, especially because I'm from the U.S. and our dollar is floundering badly. Still worth the trip!

go to Galway city. i go to college here and the buzz is electric.
visit in july for The Galway Races, a week long event of horse racing in the Ballybrit Racecourse. Aslo in July is the Galway Arts Festival where music art and culture just mix and mingle for a week as well. Catch the Galway Oyster Festival during September, where you can just eat oysters and drink beer all weekend!

visit The Quays or Tig Colig pubs for traditional music, The Kings Head and the Roision Dubh for local rock/indie bands, MacDonaghs for the (voted) 'best fish and chips in Ireland' .Head to the clubs aswell, theres around 6.

head outside of Galway to Connemara, for scenery and also Salthill. its right on the coast and is just... my heart is here always!i'm from Mayo, the county above Galway....so make time to visit a tourist town Westport and the local pilgrimage mountain Croagh Patrick...go n-eiri an tadh leat!(good luck!)
