Never happen. Irish fought hard for our independence from the crown

Joining the Commonwealth would mean that Ireland was happy about its association with Britain. Like saying, 'Ah, let's forget about the last 800 years'. That will never, ever happen.

Vegas
the chance of this happening zero and none.

There is more chance that the England becomes part of the Republic of Ireland first :)

I have a feeling you are trying to stir the shite.

Why would that happen? It would make no sense.

Can't see any advantage for Ireland to do this.

Can't really see the point of the Commonwealth at all though.

Irish Lass
we fought for years to get away from them, can t see us wanting to goin the commonwealth

?
That's just crazy talk.

Orla C
Seriously, why would we bother?

Guys, let me tell you my humble opinion...imagine a hen who ran away from being into a soup and then becomes a KFS fun?
Doesn't remind of something?
It's your buisness, but I personally would choose Ireland...it will bloom on its own, without joining the Commonwealth or whatever. Too many countries today loose their face and individuality blindly following the globalization.

Melok
Rachel Maria made an excellent point. You use the term "rejoin" as if it was originally an amicable, painfree bloodless agreement to begin with. It was far from that. We, the indigenous people of Ireland, weren't given a choice.

Anyway, I'm happy being Irish, thanks. What you propose would never happen with the overwhelming majority of Irish people anyway.

By the way, this question was asked about a month ago.
Take a look.

Wont happen.
No politician is brave enough to put that to the irish people. It would mean that the entire struggle for freedom was worthless.
Read the irish proclamation of independance of 1916. This will give you a touch stone to why this would never happen.
Its the same reason the USA would never join.

Ireland is a republic, it is not a crown dependancy.
The difference between both are in a republic you can call yourself a citizen, a dependancy you are only subject not a citizen.
It could be said that to use the term "british citizen" is innacurate. Because of the monarchal structure a brittish person is a subject not a citizen.
In a republic all citizens are equal, in a monarchy this is not the case.

I think it's funny that this question is being posed now. Ireland as an economy is hugely successful atm, Britain didn't want anything to do with the Irish when the Irish economy was unstable and we were in serious troubles, ie The Famine and The Northern Troubles.

No, I don't think Ireland will rejoin the British commonwealth, we're an independent state.

No way!
I'd never let that happen and neither would anyone else with an once of intelligence.

Absolute rubbish - will never happen.

Opening Ceremony, Commonwealth Games, Dublin, 2026. Parade of caravans and wild horses on the loose.

Why not ? Ireland - not currently a member of the Commonewealth - was for many years an integral part of the United Kingdom. Madagascar, on the other hand, is a member, but was never even a British colony.
