Sunday, Bloody Sunday

On January 30, 1972, soldiers from the British Army's 1st Parachute Regiment opened fire on unarmed and peaceful civilian demonstrators in the Bogside, Derry, Ireland, near the Rossville flats, killing 13 and wounding a number of others.

Joshua Tree. "I still haven't found what I'm looking for". Why? All the bucks and this? I left him long ago. We used to know them back in the early band days. The hub was on a Southwest Tour. We met a lot of them starting out in the 80's. Well, I got a pencil drawing of Bono from the base player and gave it to my friend. That's what I'M looking for! I want that thing for E-Bay. See much I can scrape up for that. With the way this thing is going, tho', I won't get 10 cents!

'It's a beautiful day'

In this line, Bono is showing his excitement about the sun finally shining in Ireland for a day. It's such a rare occurrence, that it really is something to sing and rejoice about.

"I got you babe" means he loves Cher.

U2 started out as a Christian band, a lot of their lyrics back then where about raising theological questions, these days they are more politically motivated.

Early mornin', April 4, shot rings out in the Memphis sky...

The assassination of MLK.

Beyond that, he's lost me.

As a "seasoned" U2 fan I think the best answer to your question is "you obviously don't get it, so leave it alone". Otherwise, if you'd like to get it, I suggest you research the band from start to finish. They are above and beyond your typical drugged up, sex craving, head banging, booze guzzling rock band. Which might explain the lack of knowledge of some of the responders to your question. May I suggest you read "U2 Into The Heart" by Niall Stokes. It explains the foundation of every U2 song. But do you really want to know? My question to you......What other rock icons can you name that have been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, or been chosen as "Person of the Year" by Time Magazine?

Considering the number of fans that follow this band whole heartedly, we really won't miss you if you don't want to join us.

By the way, what does this have to do with traveling to Ireland?
