My great-great grandfather left Nth. Ireland for Scotland around the early part of the nineteenth century. In the 1851 UK Census, it's stated that he was born in a town/village in County Tyrone by the name of Limlianangra (?) The spelling of this place seems to be incorrect as I cannot find reference to it anywhere. Does anyone have any idea what the correct name of this place might be?
Sorry, no, unless it's Lisnaragh. Lim- is an unusual prefix, but it's certainly not unheard of, Limavaddy in neighbouring Derry being an obvious example.
A lot of rural areas are known locally by townsland names that aren't printed on conventional maps. These placenames do appear on Ordnance Survey maps so your best bet may be to order the ones that cover Tyrone from the OS website and then go over them until you find a place with a similar name:

This is likly to be a Townland name. Ireland is split into many Townlands. I had a look at a list of Townlands for Tyrone but found nothing like your spelling so I suggest you post this on this site link below. Free registration is necessary to post. Happy hunting.
