Places to visit in Ireland??

I am traveling to Ireland next year and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on any historical, or fun places to go to there! Any towns or cities to visit, or any certain festivals or celebrations they might have. Pretty much any fun places, or tips on things to do. Thank you!

fly into shannon airport in co.clare, you can get tours all around clare to see the burren the most beutiful place on this earth, with only certain fauna and flora found here that are nowere else in the world, in clare you also have the cliffs of mother there amazing, you can visit the arin islands from doolin and see what ireland was like 100s a years ago, in clare you also have bunratty castle, an amazing castle, and folk park longside it, a massive tourist attrackshin for americans, you also have craginown a village recunstuction of the celtic time in ireland , and right longside clare then is limerick where its full of historical features like king johns castle and st.marys cathedral, youll love it, slan

The Burren. Absolutely don't miss the Burren. There's no place like it and it's utterly breathtaking in its beauty. If you head up the 480 through the central part of Clare, stop at the famous Poulnabrone Dolmen. And if you want to get to an out of the way place that's really amazing, follow the signs to the Poulawack Cairn (you'll see a sign pointing you to the left if you're heading north on the 480, a little bit before the dolmen). It's a bit of work to get to (walking across a lot of limestones) but it's worth it and hardly anyone goes there. We spent about 2-3 hours up there and only saw a couple people when we first arrived. We had the place to ourselves for nearly the entire time. Well worth it! We also got out on the Burren with a highly detailed map (obtained at the visitor's center in Kilfenora) and a compass to find some other really out of the way sites (one required us to walk across some farmer's property -- legal, btw and go through an electrical fence to get to it). That was a lot of fun but perhaps more work than other people want!

Cork city, Kerry, County Clare, Lisdoonvarna and Doolin, Cliffs of Moher, Ballyvaughan, Armagh, Derry, Roe Valley Country Park, Sperrins, Mournes, Connemara, Armagh, Fermanagh Lakes, Enniskillen, Bushmills, the Giants Causeway...gosh, there's loads more too!

Start doing some real research - sorry, but asking on Yahoo Answers doesn't really count. Try googling the History of Ireland, and do some reading.

The thing is, people from Dublin are biased towards Dublin, and people from the rest of the country are biased towards other parts of the country.

But I suggest that if you live in an urban area where you are now, that you consider spending a good portion in your holiday in rural Ireland.

Ireland is full of history and of course historical sites going back to the Viking age, so as another poster suggest doing your homework and some research into what you are interested in may be a great advantage to you. all towns have thier own historical events from July to August.

There are loads of festivals going on in different parts of Ireland all the time. I like the Cats Lough Festival which takes place in Kilkenny in July or August. Check out www.entertainment.ie for a list of all festivals and everything else that is going on in Ireland. You should also go hiking at least for one day while here, if you come to Dublin the Wicklow mountains are not too far and offer great hiking tracks. Check out www.discoverireland.ie - the best Irish web site for tourist information.
