I think the guy who first had a 'hit' with The Fields of Athenry was Paddy Reilly....

Best ever version of Whiskey in the Jar...Thin Lizzy....no longer around
(Phil Lynott was one of the best)

To be honest if you happen upon a session where either of these are being sung....I'm sure you'll enjoy it very much.
They don't go to the pub to dance to the music! The singing will be only mighty accompanying these two classics!

As some answerers already said, the older version are from Paddy O'Reilly, and Thin Lizzy, but the faster versions are from Brush Sheils. He also did dirty old town (me thinks)

I suppose you could do a search on YouTube, you might be lucky.

Phil Lynnot didn't write Whiskey In The Jar, it is a traditional song. But his version is great.

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge
Aiden Walsh - Master of the Universe!

it might be the Dropkick Murphys - here's a link to a youtube video of their version of Fields Of Athenry

Seeing as phil lynott and thin lizzy wrote whiskey in the jar, its obviously that version which is the best. any munster supporter too will give you the best version of the fields.
