All the American TV shows are shown in Ireland. You would have little to miss if you moved to Ireland. You will have to learn to spell colour and other words.

My sister-in-law is American and lived in Ireland for years. She didn't miss any material goods, but you can buy most American things in Ireland anyway or buy them on eBay.

The food is better in Ireland. How many obese people are there in America? Not so many in Ireland per head of population.

Bad:
economic downturn
rising unemployment
inept government
crap infrastructure
collapsing healthcare system
dreadful urban planning authorities
corrupt politicians
wasteful public services

Good:
lovely people
good (if underfunded) almost free education system
universal healthcare (although as mentioned, the system is falling apart)
low taxes (root cause of all our problems)
low crime rates in comparison to other western countries
good telecomms infrastructure (much better mobile & internet coverage than the US)
beautiful countryside
excellent locally grown/made food produce
if you don't live in Dublin, it is possible to live in a rural setting within commuting distance of a small city
good connections to other European destinations

And the weather really isn't as bad as everyone says it is.

I lived in Ireland (for Uni) for about 7 months, and I'm a U.S. citizen. i'll be honest and say-

Pros
It is a beautiful country, and has a lot of heritage to offer
Great people, tons of fun at night
public transportation is great

Cons
Get used to paying double for everything us Americans take for granted. Internet was expensive, cost of living, food, gas, etc. You have no idea how quick it adds up. Even going to the pub, pints were killing me in comparison to what they are here.

from what I hear, the Irish economy is taking a downturn too. Good luck finding a job as an immigrant.

I don't think the cold was that bad (I deal with Michigan winters), but it sure could get dreary if you're used to a ton of sun.

The quality of food is a lot better in Ireland than it was 10 years ago. The variety available might be greater in the US, but Ireland certainly catching up.

Otherwise other answerers have given you good information. I'm not going to bother repeating what they have said.

its too dam cold(well in the north were i live derry is much colder then what dublin will be)
Different driving seat
only other thing i can think of is if your a gun nut you wont find much joy here
Its mostly the same except weather and people(most are friendly)
One other thing but this doesn't really affect you, there is a good amount of people who hate immagration(but thats more EU/eastern countries americans are normally fine since they are generally the same as us)

i think if u want to experience something new but also english speaking ireland, dublin for me would be great.

dont know if you'd stay for ever now if u really didnt have to(i mean grew up somewhere else) but id say you'd have great fun just for a couple of years, maby u could love it and feel at home.

irelands weather isnt that bad, not that cold during winter. the summer can be a bummer if ur fussy about doin things in rain..im not but can understand that in summer u want to actually see sun...i guess thats what holidays are for.

but look its good to always give things a shot and try stuff out. u only live once right.

Well, I would say the food in America is better, as is the telvision, music ranges and the weather.

Ireland has great sports, (GAA), and we are supposed to be very hospitable. We also have great traditions, and people are a wee bit laid back. The weather is wet, we have winter, winter, a glimpse of spring then winter again, and the roads are not great. The NHS and education systems are free- and alot of people burn fires so fuel costs are lower.
