Public Transport in Dublin? What are the best options? |
I will be spending 2 days in Dublin without a car. We are staying at the Comfort Inn Parnell Square. The one thing I would like to see is Trinity College but are very flexible elsewhere. Oh and I need to get to the airport on the final day to fly back home! Can anyone suggest the best (ie probably cheapest) method of transportation. We are keen to walk but unsure of distances. Is there a good bus or train network. Thanks. |

The airport bus that you should take is the aircoach. It's 7 euro I think. Here's the link:
http://aircoach.ie/
In the city itself, there are extensive bus routes, but they are very hard to figure out. For a two day visit just don't bother.
They have two other lines, the LUAS and the DART. The LUAS is a street level tram within the city, and the DART is a commuter train that goes farther into the suburbs. They are both really made to help people get in and out of the city and reduce traffic. They aren't that useful for tourists.
The good news is, that it's a small city and very easy to walk around. The farthes out things, like Pheonix Park and the Guinness factory, while a walk, are totally do-able if you have good shoes. Just stop at a pub every 10 blocks - there's always one around!
And Trinity College from Parnell Square is also walkable. Although if you want to save your feet a bit, you might ask at the hotel for the bus into the city center, and then do all your walking once there. It's a crowded city, but like I said, totally walkable. (But do bring a weatherproof jacket!)
Enjoy! |

Dublin is relatively small, and almost all of the tourist attractions you want to see are within walking distance, such as the National Gallery, the National Museum, and so on. Trinity College is quite close to where you'll be staying - it's only a 15 minute walk or so.
The cheapest method of transportation is the bus, but it's not always a reliable service and as already said, it's a bit confusing to figure out. The LUAS and DART are your other options, but it really depends on where you want to go. Both are close to where you'll be staying.
For getting back to the airport, you can use Dublin bus - there are a few routes that serve the airport - but I really recommend the Aircoach instead, as suggested above. It's a privatised service, and is a lot more convenient and comfortable than public transport. The buses run every 20 minutes at peak times, and you can get it from O'Connell St, right beside Parnell Square. It's only about 7 euro one way, and it's worth it. The drivers are always lovely too, very polite and they'll actually help you with your luggage, which the Dublin Bus drivers definitely won't!
Enjoy your stay! |

My dear girl you'll be in the heart of the city Trinity is about 10 minutes walk.(the buses are quite good I have to admit and the Lucas is a dream(a train or cable car above ground) its brilliant. But youre in the heart of the city youre young u can just about walk everywhere. |

It's not a long walk from Parnell Square to Trinity College, between 20 minutes and half an hour, depending on how busy O'Connell street is.
There are also buses that take you in that direction. No trains unfortunately! |

you are right in the city. everything is in walking distance!trinity is 10 mins away but ya can take detours that lead ya over the hapenny bridge and through temple bar and ya could see more. airport ya can get the 16a bus, 746, and the aircoach or the airlink! 16a and 746 only cost normal price of maybe 1.90 euro and are relatively quick as there is bus lane whole way there!! the other buses are that bit more expensive at mayb 5euro or even 10 euro!
you are better walking around the cit as you'll see more. but i would advise to go on a bus tour, and experience places you may not think of! the train is called the dart, the tram is luas and the buses are dublin bus!stops are approx 5mins from your hotel,if even!shops are only 10 min away when ya cut through ilac shopping centre or up moore st. and if ya go over south side of liffey itl be 20 mins or so! |
