Euro is accepted in larger stores, supermarkets and filling stations, but this sometimes has a fee involved so be sure to ask before you get to the checkout. Smaller shops such as newsagents may do it at their discretion, but you would be best getting some Sterling currency. |

Northern Ireland is part of the UK, so the official currency is the pound sterling. However, many Northerners are quite relaxed, and I've had a taxi driver in Newry accept €20 instead of £15 three or four years ago because he didn't have change in sterling. But expect to have to pay in sterling in the shops and restaurants. |

Euro is accepted in Ireland, British pound is accepted in the North, some stores do accept euro but you will get a less favourable exchange rate. I would change some money before you go up to the north just to be sure. |

The pound is the legal currency in the North, they will, in some places, take Euros, BUT you will get a very poor exchange rate, usually something like 10 to 20% less that the bank exchange rate. Much better to get you money in pounds either from a bank there, or before you go. |

The currency of Ireland [the Republic] is the Euro. If you go north to the Six Counties of Ulster [part of UK] you'll need the UK/GB Pound. |

Wasn't this question asked only a few days ago? Euro in republic, pound in north. |

The Euro is the ONLY currency accepted in the south, the pound is the currency in the north |
