Question for all Irelanders..................

We are really looking forward to our trip to Ireland in about 10 days. We're landing in Dublin and staying two day, so then we are heading south and swinging back up through Cork and Kerry, but the big question is if we don't drive how the heck we gonna get around?? What would be the best bus pass to buy that we can use on any bus line any where in Ireland?? Also, where is the best place to buy these passes? Do they sell them at the airport?

you could see if you could get yourself on the paddy wagon. An informal bus tour of Ireland. It's aimed at backpackers, so I don't know if this would be what you want. Otherwise public transport in Ireland is a nightmare. Hitch lifts, people still do it here and it's ok. Not that many lunatics on the road, well unless you are talking about how they drive.

I suppose I shouldn't be recommending hitch hiking, but Bus eireann and PAB travel do organised tours too.

Go on line and inquire from Bus Eireann

There is a tourist office in the arrivals hall of Dublin Airport that will be able to help you. They can also be bought from tourist offices in the city - O'Connell St and Suffolk St.

You'd be better off using the train if you're travelling from Dublin to Cork and Kerry. You can buy these at any train station and you can gte ones that can be used on the buses too.

Happy holidays

The Dublin City buses are a nightmare but the country buses aren't bad at all. Thats Bus Eireann and they pretty much go anywhere, you'll be ok, don't worry!!

Try paddywagon tours. http://www.paddywagontours.com/

You could always fly to cork from dublin and try busing it back up the country

You need a tourist pass bus ticket for the national buses.
See here: http://www.buseireann.ie/site/your_journey/tourist_travel_passes.asp

For within Dublin, you can get daily passes. See here:
http://www.dublinbus.ie/fares_and_tickets/daily.asp

I'm not sure if they sell them in the airport. You could email them and find out.

You can get a bus from the airport to busarus where you can get day passes there and most buses leave from there

buses in ireland are terrible!! it takes forever and ur usually next to someone smelly or who tries telling u how awful Americans are! its no fair! haha that only happened twice! but rent a car if u can then u get to go wherever u want throught the cities that the bus takes u to. if u can afford to rent then def do the train. have a good time!!

first thing to do. when you get the bus to DUBLIN CITY CENTRE, ask the bus driver, he will not bite your head off. dont start asking him about the (QUIET MAN, W.B. YEATS, or the political miracle in the NORTH)... other people will be wanting to get on the bus. just ask the natives. enjoy your irish visit................

you're leaving in 10 days and don't have any transport organised yet?????????????????????????? get onto hiring a car FAST or you might as well stay at home. bus connections here are terrible, they only run back and forward to major cities and you wont see anything. you'll be ok in dublin cos it has the dart and the luas and buses but out the country our public transport is awful. you would end up having to plan your holiday around the bus rather than the other way around.
