Rubbish. Go to Cork or Galway. Cork is better for nightlife, has heaps of good restaurants, gigs, theatre, shopping, pubs, whatever you need. And it's not far from the coast, you can visit Blarney and loads other stuff.

Galway is a smaller town, still has lots to do, is more Irish than any other big town, and is very close to beautiful countryside - sea cliffs, Connemara National Park, the Twelve Pins, etc.

And stay in B&Bs, like the banana girl said, there's loads listed on the official website below:

Stay away from Dublin, it's much more expensive than the rest of the country accommodation and food-wise, and it's lost the charm it had in the early nineties. Even friends of mine who are through-and-through Dubs and wouldn't live anywhere else have admitted to me that Dublin no longer feels like it's part of Ireland, it feels more like it's part of England.

One of these Dubs was down in Limerick last weekend, and was well impressed with the welcome she got there, she thinks Limerick is a really friendly city. But so is Galway, and Cork, and Waterford, and Kilkenny.

I'm sure Belfast is too, but I haven't been there.

Stay in B&Bs, and ask the hostess to point you in the direction of local goings-on, that kind of thing. They are usually happy to help.

Priscilla: There ain't much happening in Cork at the moment. Sher we miss Sir Henry's altogether so we do. Even the Half Moon doesn't open much these days. Things aren't what they used to be....... So Leitrim is the place to be!

Hi. I'm from Northern Ireland. And your not gonna like what I say...

I hate it here. I have never, and will never understand people who come from AMERICA, to Ireland... it's like.. the equivilant of getting out of bed and getting into a gas chamber. Why would you do it?

yes, there are 'rolling gren hills' and beautiful scenery everywhere, but there really is nothing to do. If you are set on coming here...

Belfast is the most entertaining place in the north. The Odyssey Arena has a cinema, IMAX cinema, bowling, a few restaurants and a concert hall where events are held regularly. If you wanted to ice skate there's a rink in a village a little outside Belfast called Dondonald. Not forgetting Belfast Zoo. If your into history you could take a drive around Falls Road and the Shankill. There you'll see murals and stuff from the Troubles. Butbe warned, these are still pretty dangerous areas. I wouldn't stand in the Falls Road and say "protestants are awfully nice people."

I live far from Dublin so I can't really give you much advise about there. But you can find loads on the net.

With regards to finding a cheap place to stay, why not find a private B&B somewhere? They're scattered all over Ireland, and are very cheap to stay in.

So anyway, if you come I hope you enjoy your trip. The Irish people are all very friendly and you'll feel very welcome here (especially if you have an American accent!!)

But don't expct too much entertainment wise.. to save your dissapointment.
