Renewing our wedding vows in Dublin Ireland.? |
My wife has booked us into a hotel in October for my 40th birthday celebration. If possible I was thinking of booking a small place or a vicar to retake our wedding vows as a surprise. IE Having everything in place and just turning up on the day as a total surprise to my wife and little girl who will be 6 then. Can anyone help with any suggestions. Thanks. Steve. |

I'm also a Dublin native and love your idea. Not knowing where you are staying (although assuming you will have transport), I suggest Malahide within the Dublin area.
http://www.malahidecastle.com/malahidecastle/default.asp
It is very beautiful, being beside the sea, and easily accessible by DART trains. There is a lovely castle and nice gardens (although not sure if there will be too much colour in October) and you could treat the three of you to a meal in the Grand Hotel, Malahide. When you say "vicar" I assume you're Anglicans or Episcopalians - there is a local Church of Ireland and the rector/vicar is rev. Dr Norman Gamble:

(I don't know him but understand he is interested in railways).
Hope this helps - you might like to check my Dublin guide before you go: |

I live in Dublin and can recommend a few areas that are nice with lovely views. Maybe you could Google hotels in these areas. Malahide, Portmarnock, Howth, Sutton, Clontarf. They're all in North Dublin.
And in South Dublin, Killiney, Dalkey, Bray, Blackrock, Booterstown, Shankill.
Just a suggestion, Wicklow is the county just south of Dublin. Approximately 40 minutes away. It's known as the garden of Ireland and it's really beautiful and possibely slightely less expensive than Dublin.
Hope this is helpful :) |

The Questioner

I would suggest you try Tel 00353-1-8454770 and see if you could arrange that for St Doulagh's Church, Balgriffin which is linked with Malahide Parish.. Check out this church on our website. This is a very historic Church, the oldest stone roofed church in Ireland. Look up http:// malahide etc. for details. and you can contact the Rector(Vicar) You can tell your wife you are just visiting one of Irelands most Historic Churches. We can arrange a guided tour. Good Luck. Also, the grounds are perfect for Photographs.
You can look it up on the website under stdoulaghs. The Rectors name is Rev Gamble. |

If you are serious about this particularly in St. Doulaghs you would want to book it as soon as possible. It is beautiful but have never seen Norman do a vow renewal but am sure it would be great.
Enjoy your trip anyway. |
