dollymix (now geeky for a month)
Primary School Pupils=For midterm in october/november some get 2 days while some may get a week, 2 weeks Christmas, for midterm in February again some get two days while some may get 1 week, 2 weeks Easter, 2 months summer(end 30th of June, start 1st of September).

Secondary School Students= 1 week october/november(midterm), 2 weeks Christmas, 1 week February(midterm), 2 weeks Easter, 3 months Summer(End 31st May, start 1st of September). In my school exam students (J.C &L.C) get off a week earlier than the rest off the students, but they have 2 weeks of exams in June

College= have no midterms, I think they get 2-4 weeks for their Christmas & Easter and some get 4 months holidays, as some start in October instead of September. It really depends when their exams finish aswell, some finish in May, some finish in June. Really depends on the college.

The primary & secondary schools have days off in between, the board of management gives them so many days off a year. Secondary school pupils also have a study day before the Christmas and Summer holidays to study for the tests they have before the holidays to see really if they are able if they are in higher and need to go down to ordinary level, and to see if they have been doing their work & study given during the 'semesters'<I dont know any other word to put it in!

Hope I helped! xxx:)

when the sun goes down
SECONDARY SCHOOLS- three months in summer from june-very end of august(except for JC and LC students who do exams, they don't get off til mid-june)

at hallowe'en there is a one week mid-term break

two weeks at Christmas

one week mid february

two weeks at easter

PRIMARY SCHOOLS- 2 month summer holidays, very end of june-1st september

at hallowe'en there is a one-week mid-term break

2 weeks at christmas

one or two days off when the secondary schools have their mid-term break in february

2 weeks at easter

Pyro
Primary schools get:
2 months off in summer,
2 weeks off for Christmas/Easter
1 week off for halloween and one or maybe 2 other midterms

Secondary are pretty much the exact same except they get:
3 months off in summer (unless doing junior or leaving cert)

and depending on the college most palces would get
3 1/2 possibly almost 4 months off for summer.
2 weeks possibly a month off for Christmas
and a few mid terms scattered around the year

^^None of which include random one day religious holidays and bank holidays

I think we have it pretty good!!

We get loads!!

We get the first week of November off, 2 weeks at Christmas off, 1 week in February, 2 weeks at Easter and the secondary non exam classes finish at the end of May, exam classes finish mid June and all primary school classes finish at the end of June. We start back usually on the 1st of September.

We get those holidays and also bank holidays (Paddy day etc.) and school planning days etc.

No the teachers all have second homes in spain and I think they have decreased the school year to less than 180 days last time I read it in the newspaper. The primary schools ( 5-12 yrs) get 2 solid months in the summer and the secondary get 3 months. But the teachers are able to dream up a lot of extra days and each term can have 1-2 midterm breaks of 1 weeks duration plus they have easter and christmas holidays too. each month they have a half day off for a teachers meeting which lasts all of 20 minutes...........We have very cheap flights to spain so there is great pressure to keep reducing the school year accordingly.
The result is a much poorer level of education but its national policy to dumb down exams so all our kids fair better at an international level
