Cutie

So If you get work experience in a primary school, can you not teach?

If you're in transition year and get work experience in a primary school can you not actually teach the kids, like not even PE or Art or do you just help the teacher? Thanks

No, you just help the teacher or SNA. Their roles are very tightly regulated and as a TY student you will not have the skills or (no offence) maturity to be able to deal with nearly 30 young children. Anyway, young kids have a special radar that senses inexperience - 10 minutes alone with them and they'd have you devoured.
It's safer for all involved if you just help the trained staff in their duties.

i did transition year work experience last year and i was allowed to teach phonics and i did some p.e. and a bit of maths and reading. the teacher was in the room with me the whole time though but i had great craic at it. i supposed the only reason i was allowed to do it though was because i went to that school and the same teachers that are there now thought me aswell.

Nope not at all...When I was in a class that had TYs in it...they were made clean the classroom!
But it's better than school anyways.
Have fun in TY...easiest and best year of your life.

No. I just asked my mam there and she said that it's just usually classroom assistance. I don't think your allowed teach if you don't do that H-Dip thing. I know it sucks a little bit. How are you supposed to know if you're right for the job if you don't get a feel for teaching?!
