So we're finally going to Ireland this summer....? |
My Grandmother and I are finally going to go to Ireland this year, sort of to celebrate her 70th and my 16th birthday, it couldn't be more appropriate cause we're both Irish.
So I think we'll probably go to Cork, see Blarney Castle, and the stone. I also wanted to go see the Michael Collins museum, how close is that? And is there an airport in Cork, or do we have to fly into Dublin? Also any suggestions on sights? Places to stay? I also wanted to see St. Patrick's hill and the city built on seven hills. Basically I need tips and suggestions! |

And how do you know where her Grandmother was born? Could be she actually is Irish.
I would say fly into Dublin or Shannon, they seem to have the most flights. Depends where you are flying from. And don't worry, most Irish people you'll meet are very friendly. Get a basic guidebook on Ireland, it's all in there. It is a relatively small country so you will be able to see a good deal of it, depending on your Grandmothers health. Great country - have a wonderful trip. |

The city built on 7 hills is derry. It's got fantastic history - as most of the northern counties have! Stay in b and b's they are relatively cheap and usually have great food with a land lady who will give good advice as to where to go. Visit Trim, lisdoonvarna, Armagh, Cliffs of Moher, Mountains of Mourne, Connemara, Killarney, Kilkenny, Enniskillen. Loads of fantastic sites and sights to see - Hill of Tara etc - wow! I really really hope you have a great trip and enjoy yourselves. |

Where are you flying from? Check with your airline if you can fly into Cork Airport or if you have to fly to Shannon or Dublin. Ireland is quite small when compared to America or Africa. (tiny) So most places are within easy access, even if they are at the other side of the country they are only about 5 hours away by road. Enjoy your holiday, it will be one you will never forget. Check out a few sites for Irish holidays, They have loads of links. |

Firstly, you are not Irish.
Now, there is an airport in Cork so you can fly directly there, By ''St. Patrick's hill'' did you mean Croagh Patrick? That is in Mayo, and is about 3.5 hours drive away from Cork. |
