Donegal Rose |
Someone said that surnames can be a clue to where a person was from in Ireland? |
Well, my last name is "ROORK" and my father's family came from Ireland. To which county would our name belong? BTW, this is not a misspelling of the name, it is my last name and I have spelled it correctly. My paternal grandfather was Fred Roork who married Lela Guinn. |

It is definetely a stem from the name Rourke.
I've been travelling around the isle of emerald a lot in the few months, and I've found out that there is an awful lot of Rourke's and O'Rourke's in county Leitrim. I know at least 2 or 3 from that county (where I have been only 2 times!).
As for Guinn it is a stem of the surname Quinn. I'm quite sure it is a name from the centre of the nation, so Longford and Meath. |

Maybe that's the way you spell the name, but I have never seen it spelt any way other than Rourke or Roarke. See http://www.irishgen.com/surnames/variantdetails.asp?surname_id=654 for some info on the name. It seems Wexford is where it's most common |

I have a handle on the Schneider, Snider, Snyder, Taylor clan and what happened in that mess but I don't recognize any interaction between my kin and yours. Sorry.
Have you looked into any of the genealogy pages available on the web. I don't know of any that are free but for a few dollars you might get some good information. Also is there any kind of web based phone book for Ireland. If you did a search on the name and 80% of the return came from one county that would be a start.
Well that's about all I can suggest. Hope someone give a dead on answer with no conditions. Good luck on your quest. |

Could stem from O'Rourk which is an Irish name |

Sounds like Ireland to me. Try a heritage site or go to a Scottish festival. They always have boothes with books so you can trace your lineage. |

Try county Clare. Its seems that this is an Irish surname.
Edit
I would have thought it was rourke but if you go to google.ie i found a reference to a parish record from co clare |
