Tesco, LIDL or Aldi........................

In Ireland which of the 3 do you think is the best store for shopping in and why?

It's hard to say, If you're only going to one place probably Tesco because everything it sells has a pretty decent quality but lidl in my experience offers different things (compared to Tesco),

For example off the top of my head you can pick up Jamón serrano (similar to Parma ham) and granola snack bars for next to nothing in lidl which wouldn't be true of Tesco.

And lidl is definitely cheaper than Tesco on many different things.

As a general rule of thumb the meat in lidl isn't great and neither are some of the fruit and veg (though you can pick up three peppers for £1 lidl and they're fine).

I've never shopped in Aldi so I'm afraid I can't comment there.

Dunnes is my favourite supermarket imho it's the best all rounder.

none!none of them are irish shops!

For me it's ALDI. The quality of the food is much superior than the other 2 stores. Their own brands seem to be voted top or near the top of supermarket brands tested. Their anti-wrinkle cream was voted best on the market, beating well known expensive creams. Any hardware items i have bought there are top quality.

It really depends on what you want to buy.
We mainly go to Tesco's for majority of our shopping since Lidl and Aldi does not carry everything we need.

We don't live near a LiDl or an Aldi's so we mainly go there when we pass by it.

I recommend shopping at all 3! :0)
Lidl an Aldi's is less expensive.

An expensive store I would like to shop for food is Marks and Spencers. LOL.
We often stop off at Dunnes for items we can't get at Tesco's.

Hey, I shop everywhere!

I have not seen an Asda store near us. Well, best of luck with your shopping.

It depends on what your getting, for cheese, yogurts, wine and paper towels etc Aldi and Lidl are better, (and my dog loves their doggie snacks), my local Tescos is a dump, the one in Maynooth is slightly better, but is it worth the trip?

I suppose tescos offer a wider range of goods, the fruit and veg seem to last longer and they do have brand names, if you believe in branding, but for all the branding in the world could you pick up horse saddles, drum kits, fecken cycling shorts, 3-1 garden accessories, betamax video cleaners besides your bananas in Tescos? Don't think so, I go to Lidl and Aldi for craic half the time.

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge

Tesco because if you go to Aldi or Lidl you end up buying stuff that doesn't taste the same as Kellogg's Corn Flakes or McVities Plain Chocolate Digestives and you'll end up throwing out half the stuff and then the Greens wouldn't be happy because you'd be contributing to our massive landfill problem.

well i have all 3 and more at my door step, but i look in every one first, for groceris i go the lidl and for food and clothes and bargins,i go to tesco ,,very very good for value, and you have every thing there, asda is gone very expencive and not very good for money,,just look around,,you get a idea, where your money goes, good luck

Depends whether you want Quality or Quantity.
If it's quality, Tesco

I should be doing something else
Tesco, they have everything you could want and more. Haven't been in Lidl in years and last time I was in Aldi I felt like I needed to have a shower after I came out of the place, but that's possibly because it was in Larne.

EDIT - GreenBrigade you are right, I sanity checked with someone about the 'Aldi' in Larne, but it's actually a Lidl. Thought I was going nuts there for a minute...

Each have their ups and downs - I usually go to Tesco's because it's slightly more convenient.

Tesco & LIDL...

Tesco has everything in good quality..

LIDL has everything too, electronics to home furnitures to clothing and etc. It's prices are reasonable too.

Both are good, I've never been to Aldi before so i cannot judge that... however, tesco's products have brand LIDL's doesn't although they're just beggining to sell products with brands for e.g. Walkers crisps...

Lidl or Aldi have good prices for chocolate and biscuits, but you can't live on them alone. I find them expensive enough for other items, and the choice is quite limited. I don't find much to suit me there. Tesco has a much bigger range, but you have to keep your eyes sharp and compare. Some prices have quietly spiralled recently.

As a matter of fact, I'd say Tesco because they have cheaper priced products than many other retailers and they also sell the regular household brands and mainstream products as well, unlike the other two, such as Games, DVDs, and Music. Despite this, if i really had a choice I'd go to ASDA which is the best of the lot in my opinion in all respects.

GreenBrigade
I've never shopped at Aldi as we don't have them in the North but some things in Lidl are much better than tesco but for a general shop then its tesco as I can get all i need there. Lidl has many big brand german products that I buy but I know these product because I go to Hamburg with my work a few times a year. A lot of things Lidl sell are expensive products in Germany. Also they do some great pastas and salamis.

The guy above me says there are Aldis in the north but I've never seen one

I've never been to LIDL. I've been to Aldi & they have alot of reasonable products, for great value. Gotta say that Tesco is my fav out of the 3 tho, it has pretty much everything i need in the store. My fav of all time is ASDA tho :D

Flying mop dog
I normally go to Tesco but the Aldi stuff is actually really nice and good quality. Wouldn't bother with Lidl.

Flame 187
Lidl / Aldi

Coz it's way cheaper than Tesco. Though i do like some foods/Breads from Tesco but i barely ever shop there.
