The Irish Jokes? |
Am I the only one who gets annoyed when yet another joke about the Irish and how thick we are comes up?
I mean I wouldn’t mind really but it seems like every time I go into the jokes and riddles section there’s a new joke that has a drunken Irish guy in it
Couldn’t someone find a new stereotype to mess with for a while?
How did we end up as the blonde in so many jokes? |

I kno i suppose its a bit annoying.....but its the Americans who r the real joke when they come over here and are fooled by spending money on stupid t-shirts and things like kissing the blarney stone!!!lol |

I should be doing something else

Nope it doesn't bother me. What does bother me is that people of a certain country which I won't name seem to believe them and think we believe in Leprechauns and ask stupid questions like 'Do you have cars in Ireland? or 'Do you have movie theatres in Ireland?' etc etc |

Nah, why would I? And don't tell me you never told a Kerryman joke or a Paddy englishman, Paddy scotsman and Paddy irishman story? The only difference is when we tell them, the Irishman is the brains of the outfit. |

Annoys me too! And Im an american. A lot of Irish people dont drink at all. Just a lot of bored, ignorant, narrow minded people in this world.
As for HOW this started ........well there are several reasons. One reason is...and this is an absolute FACT ... groups of people who have experienced generations of violence, brutality, genocide, oppression, DEpression, and prejudices...etc etc etc....are more prone to alcoholism and other problems like this. Its a fact. Its in the books. Over here a lot of people think the Native Americans are nothin but drunken Casino owners. The fact is- many of them are living in POVERTY and are dying of illnesses that could be easily treated. etc etc.... But anyway,,,,,,,its a cycle......and so is ignorance.
Dont sweat it. Every dog has it's day. |

No, I love the irish jokes. Most of them are true anyway. I go to pubs all the time, and grew up in them with my parents not that they were drunks my da played darts but still, You always here the irish tell jokes about them selves, were just fun loving people. A lot of jokes are not about drinking anyways alot are about how prideful we are too. |

No need to be so bloody sensitive, you can learn to give as good as you get with other nationalities too. Yes, the drunken Irish person is a very tired and rather pathetic stereotype, but I think it reflects more on those who believe in it and tell the joke, rather than actual Irish people - of which I am one.
If people are shallow enough to believe in stereotypes, that's their problem - and it most certainly IS a problem.
I can't remember who said this, but "Which is the great fool, the fool who jumps of the fool who follows him?" I'm not even sure if this is the correct quote, maybe someone will correct it.
Put it out of your mind, there are more important things to think about. In my experience in all the countries I've ever visited, the people there love the Irish or wish they were Irish. The ones who push the stereotypes in the jokes are shallow, jealous and suffer from an inferiority complex; the ones who fall for the jokes are overly sensitive and suffer from an inferiority complex. Get over it. |
