The design is called a claddagh. If the wearer is single, the heart faces away from the wearer; their heart is open. If the wearer is married, the heart faces them; that way the heart reminds her of the one she loves. The heart is for love, the hands for friendship, and the crown for loyalty. A more in-depth explanation would be if the ring is on the right hand and facing out, the woman is single. If it is on the right hand facing in, the woman is in a relationship. If the ring is on the left hand facing out, she is engaged; and finally if the ring is on the left hand facing in, she is married. That's about all I know about it!!

it's called a "claddagh" ring; not sure how you're supposed to wear it if you're married vs. single...most ppl i know wear it with the crown facing towards you i.e not facing towards the tip of your finger

The way that a Claddagh ring is worn on the hand is usually intended to convey the wearer's romantic availability, or lack thereof.

Traditionally, if the ring is on the right hand with the heart facing outward and away from the body, this indicates that the person wearing the ring is not in any serious relationship, and may in fact be single and looking for a relationship: "their heart is open."

When worn on the right hand but with the heart facing inward toward the body, this indicates the person wearing the ring is in a relationship, or that "someone has captured their heart".

A Claddagh worn on the left hand ring finger facing outward away from the body generally indicates that the wearer is engaged.

When the ring is on the left hand ring finger and facing inward toward the body, it generally means that the person wearing the ring is married."

if the heart faces towards you it means you are taken, facing out means your single.

It's called a Claddagh ('kladda') ring.

If you're single, you wear it with the point of the heart pointing away from your own heart, with the crown facing your knuckles.

If you're not single, then you wear it with the point of the heart facing your knuckles.

Most people wear it on their left hand, but that's a personal choice.

The name is taken from the Claddagh area of what is now Galway city, but this place was once a fishing village. The design is believed to be from Spain or Morocco, as there was a lot of trade between Ireland and these countries during the Middle Ages and later.

Its a claddagh ring pronounced clad-a. Its worn either facing inwards or outwards depending on whether you are single or not. It used to be used as a wedding ring i think.
The hands represent friendship, the crown loyalty and the heart love. Its actually a very sentimental ring!!
