Why drive? Start digging and you'll eventually get there.

If your car can float, then I would plan your route using a flat map of the world.

Otherwise, drive to an airport, get on a flight to Australia, and you're there. You may have to change somewhere in Asia though.

drive to dublin, belfast or rosslare ports, get the boat to britain, drive to dover, get the boat to france, head east through france, through germany, poland, the east of russia towards kazakhstan (say hello to Borat), head southwest through china towards Thailand, ask for directions to the port thats sails to indonesia, find a wee pub about indonesia n they'll tell you where to get a boat to papua new guinea and just hope they have boats to austrailia from there! good luck n can i hitch a lift with you?

The driving isn't the problem so much as the breathing.

Head south, then make a sharp turn at Africa

Have you looked at a map recently?......or ever?
There is a wee bit of water impeding the journey, called the Indian Ocean!

Charlie Boorman did it, without taking any real commercial flights.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/tv/wk37/feature_cboorman.shtml

thats a link to an interview he did. Can't remember, how he got through Iran and those places, it was a good programme. Think there's a book too.

Listen to all these smart arses, it can be and has been done.

Charlie Boorman did it and also students are at present traveliing from Sydney to Dublin by road (and ferry obviously) in Humvees I think.

Google it. Theres also a bus that leaves Dublin every 6 months and travels by road all the way to Australia. I think the fare is €4000 (one way obviously - who'd wanna do it twice!!!)

get in your car, drink a bottle of bushmills, pretend you are driving, you will dream of australia and kangaroos

If you find one, make sure you claim all rights to it, it will make you famous! Considering you are travelling from a small island to a big island, it could be slightly difficult!

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge

You'll need one of those James Bond amphibious car contraptions.
If you can't afford that make yourself a raft.

Take a left at Spain and see if they'll let you through the Suez Canal.

I guess it's possible if you use ferries, but why bother?

I'd get a ferry to France, then drive to Malaysia via Turkey. From there you'd need to get a ferry.

That route would take you through Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

... just fly!

put armbands on the wheels, drive off a cliff and see if you float
