Things you love/hate about Dublin?

I thought this'd be cool!

I love the atmosphere. Even though we're growing I think theres still a 'friendliness' about the city.
I love the way theres always great gigs to go to

HATE: The 'hard' little junkie scobie scumbags that seem to litter every corner.
Dublin bus...nuff said

I love the gig scene, and I love Dublin bus. There is nothing more I enjoy than sitting upstairs and listening in on what the yung wans and yungfellads are shitin on about. Who needs an ipod, it's just class.

I like there are so many green spaces, and we don't have to travel far to get to the sea or mountains.
I love the slaggings the culchies give us, it's brilliant,
And I love that I can go out at the weekend and talk to anybody from anywhere in the world.

Of course, I adore the aul wans, working hard on becomming one.

I hate the traffic, the racism, I see everyday, the scumbags who are ready to kill ye if ye look at them sideways, and when the little gurriers smoke upstairs on de bus.

To sum it up I was on the bus the other day going to meet some friends in town (I think it was Monday before Paddys). 3 girls down the back of the bus all about 16 looked at the gangs of tourists and one asked the other 'what in the name of jaysus do they come here for, whats there to look at, a few old buildings? All there is is that rotten spike!! (this was as the bus turned into High Street with Christchurch in front and St Patricks Cathedral to the right), her friends thought for a while, and one said...I suppose its like us going to France, I'm sure the French don't want to look at the Eiffel tower, they must think its rotten looken, but I'd want to go see it'...' Embrace Dublin Bus, its class

Ignorance ,bliss and genius all at once, where else would you get it.

And, I love the fact even the dogs have surnames, as in Betty Brown, its the dog, not me ma.

BeckyEm
totally agree with you!!!
I love Dublin, I love the Guiness Brewery tour, I love the character, the shops, the pubs, the people etc!

I HATE how bloody expensive it is though, and yes the junkie's do spoil it but every major city in the world has the same problem unfortunately!

Happy belated St Patricks Day!

I hate the way Dublin has gone up its own bum. It used to be a fun place to be, but then everyone got rich and obsessed with property prices, expensive cars and designer clothes.

I remember when Temple Bar was not what it is now, when you didn't dare go down there alone after dark unless you were looking for drugs or sex for hire. I remember when everyone under the age of 30 relied on public transport, now it seems that every 17-year-old has their own car. We had to work harder at creating our own entertainment, and it was much less high-tech and much more sophisticated than it is today. I remember going to see Tina Turner play at the RDS, and only having to pay IR£30 to see her - now the cheapest tickets in the Oxygen place are over €90, I know she's great, but finances are tough, so unless I strike lucky somewhere, I won't get to see her perform again. But that's life .....

I like it that there are more opportunities in Dublin (maybe not so many in the recent past, but however), but hate it that it's got so expensive to live there.

Well i live in Cork but my sis lives in Dublin so i'm there at least once a month. Came back yesterday actually from a school trip!

Love: The atmosphere is really cool, shopping is savage, some of the buskers are soo funny!,

Hate: The ACCENT! its terrible!, crossing roads is scary!
The pollution, i mean the liffey is really icky,
dublin water is sick
too much crime
yesterday our teacher made us walk on the road because the footpath was covered with needles!!
The amound of people begging is not nice
The way you can never feel safe

Then again, i'm a culchie through and through.

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge
Things we love about Dublin: James Joyce
Things we hate about Dublin: Fair City, Bono, Gerry Ryan, Martin King, Alan Cantwell, Keith Duffy, Stephen Gately, Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch, Mikey Graham, Amanda Brunker and Lorraine Keane.

I love the little old ladies who you see with their tarten pulley bag thingy and their long brown jackets going about their business. They are true dubs, most of them anyway. And so very interesting if you get chatting to them! I love the building on Lord Edward Street that has all the little guys on it making soap, I think there is so much character to this building (have a look the next time you pass it) I also love Temple Bar for the character that goes with that too, even if your in a crap mood, in the middle of the day your bound to see someone singing or playing some sort of instrument, it just cheers me up instantly.

Your right about the buses, unfortunatly as college wont let me park in town, i have to be one of the bus users, and sometimes am terrified of going on it. I also hate the the little scumbags that bang the bus stops for the laugh, and write stuff on walls everywhere, my apartment too! but hey, we live in a real world, so everywhere you go your gonna get something of everything :o)

I love Temple Bar, Shopping in Grafton Street, the people, the bars where everyone chats to everyone, The Buskers , who are very entertaining.

I hate our traffic, buses, junkie brigade, clampers, and most of all the manic taxi drivers who seem to think they own the road.
And I hate the fast food outlets that have ruined a once beautiful O'Connell street.

Edit: barbara b you should google 'Overheard in Dublin'
you might find that site amusing :-)

Unfortunately there is vey little I like about Dublin anymore.

It used to be a great place but now I find it very very different.
The traffic is a nightmare...the prices exhorbitant...crime rate is worrying...and in some restaurants you are served with a pretentiousness that even a despot would envy.

Two lines from W.B Yeats poem Easter 1916, sum it up for me.
"All is changed, changed utterly
A terrible beauty is born."

I do though enjoy very much the Dublin wit!
