Thinking of having a short break in Cork this year?

Can you recommend any places that I should visit - typical tourist attractions? Is there a zoo or nice gardens? What about somewhere to stay? I'll be driving down from Northern Ireland.

just to say Dublin zoo is not the only zoo in Ireland,there is one in cork its called Fota zoo its on fota island and if you're stayin in cork i'm sure they have bus service which brings you to the zoo,
http://www.fotawildlife.ie/
and btw mallow is not haunted!also fota house which is located near the zoo has loads of nice gardens!

The city is a good place to start off with. Great night life. Kinsale is beautiful down by the sea or Trabolgon theme Park just outside Midleton. You can't get beter than Fota WIldlife Park tho an dalso has beautiful gardens there.

Enjoy

Fota wildlife park, this is like a zoo but better - it's 15 or 20 mins outside Cork city, Kinsale is worth a trip for the food and scenery. Most of west Cork is very nice.

Mallow, with a castle that's supposed to be haunted;
Cork city, it's nice;
Blarney, with the stone, Blah blah blah - but it is a pretty village;
Midleton, with a whiskey distillery - don't drink and drive;
Cobh, aka Titanic town, it was the last stop of this famous chip back in 1912;
West Cork has Bantry, and further along is Glengariff, very pretty;
Try also Allihies, and don't forget to drive up the Healy Pass, if you have good weather the views will be unforgettable;
I'd also look into driving from Bantry over the hills to the villages of Ballyvourney and Ballymackeery - bandit country!
And if you can, and have the time, try the islands: Sherkin and Cape Clear. Cape Clear is a Gaeltacht.

There is only one Zoo in Ireland and that's Dublin Zoo.

http://www.viator.com/tours/Ireland/The-Dublin-Pass/d56-2032DUB_PASS < -- This gives you a basic rundown of things to do in Ireland.

You could See the Blarney Stone. The myth is I you kiss it you’ll never shut up!
The People in Ireland, in my opinion are an extremely welcoming race. I think this because I have went to other countries from a young age on exchanges, holidays with college etc. and I thought no one was as hospitable as the Irish.
