Travelling from N Ireland to Ireland on Visitor Visas?

I have been working and travelling in the UK on a visitor visa for just over 4 months in Belfast. My visitor visa lasts for up to 6 months. Being in N Ireland, I would like to travel into the Republic of Ireland to travel a few months before I go home and understand I can enter for four months for travel. Because there is no border, is it alright to drive from N Ireland into Ireland without receiving a stamp on my passport? When I fly out of Dublin I don't want to appear to have overstayed my UK visa and how will I prove I have not been in the Republic of Ireland? Any advice on this would be very helpful- thank you!

Reading your question, am I right in saying the following:
- you've only approximately 6-8 weeks visa time left for UK
- you want to travel from NI to ROI
- you will not be returning to NI after your visit to ROI
- instead you will fly out from ROI (back to US?)
- you want prove of you in ROI and therefore not overstaying in NI

Well, US citizens are not required to have a visa to visit Ireland for trips up to 90 days (http://www.foreignaffairs.gov.ie/home/index.aspx?id=37635 ). You cannot enter under visa waiver to ROI for 4 months to travel. That would have exceeded the 90 days term. Any non-EU/EEA citizens who wish to stay longer than 90 day in Ireland is required to get residence permit. (http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/moving-country/moving-to-ireland/rights-of-residence-in-ireland/registration-of-non-eea-nationals-in-ireland )

Due to the lack of border control between NI and ROI, I understand your concern of seemingly overstaying your UK visa. As suggested by another poster, go to the nearest garda station that has GNIB/immigration officer in order to obtain a stamp in your passport to show your date of entry to the country (or more likely, the date of your "registration")

Alternatively, contact the immigration helpline to clarify the situation. Their contacts can be found in this page : http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/WP08000090

Yep driving is no problem no security checks on the border!

Chris Brown is the man!
Yes you can drive no problems. They don't stamp your passport even if you fly from dublin to london. They will obviously know you were in the Rep. if you come in from dublin but if its a case that you want to prove you were in N.Ire for a time like? just tell them, they can't prove your lying and frankly they won't really care... theres no way they can possible prove it so you are grand!

You can get a visitors visa in the Republic at any police (Garda) station that has a GNIB officer. I see you are American so it should be no problem at all. Then you will be able to prove to the UK authorities that you did not over-stay your 6 month visa from them. (Had to read your question a few times, but I think that's what you are concerned about).
