No, but it is advisable to have photo ID
I don't know who you are sailing with, but it would be a good idea to phone them and ask them before you go. |

Your provisional licence being photo ID is OK, that's all you need, but if you have a passport, sure why not bring it too? Not necessary, though. |

By ferry, no (in rare cases a photocopy will do)
By plane, yes |

You are really supposed to have one, but when traveling by boat, it is rarely checked. |

You are more likely to need a photo ID if you take a car with you, they always check documentation before they allow you to drive through to the ferry. Your Provisional Licence should be enough, but if you have a Passport, it wouldn't hurt to take that with you too.
Remember, if you are driving, you need to have a qualified driver beside you at all times, just as in the UK, plus L plates.
Just a small bit of advice, if you are intending to drive in Ireland, some Irish drivers are homicidal maniacs. Notch your awareness levels up by several thousand percent and think that everyone is out to kill you, because some of them are. Don't believe direction signs, especially the small white ones, take a really decent OS map with you. Remember that in Ireland that "give way to the right" is a legal requirement, regardless of what the road signs say, so at crossroads/junctions, always be prepared to slam on your brakes! |

You are supposed to have some form of photo id for the ferry, but they very rarely check that you actually have it. I've sailed back and forth about 15 times and never once did they ask me for id. |

no, any photo id is fine |

you should be okay if you have a photo ID of some credit..... but it does depend on the staff who check! 90% of the time you will go through without being asked for anything, and even if uu do the photo ID is okay, but its that remaing 10% which might insist on the passport
its really up to you to chance it, it would be horrible to go and then be turned away! but like i said, that is a small chance! |

Trust me I'm a Doctor ♥

For ferry travel you need photographic ID, either passport or drivers licence so if your provisional licence is photo ID then that is what you need to take.
Most times when you book in at the kiosk they do ask for your ID so remember to take it. Sometimes you get hauled over by customs and they will want to see it too. Advisable to take your car registration documents as well just in case.
I travel from Rosslare to Pembroke and back once a year usually. |

I've been many times and never been asked. I'm English but I don't know if other nationalities need one. Definately you need one for a flight. |
