Trip To Irealnd this May.....? |
I am going on my first oversea trip to Ireland for 16 days this summer with a small group from my college, we're starting out around the Ring of Kerry and making our way to Dublin by the end. I was wondering if anyone has ever gone to Ireland? What was it like? We're the people nice? Favorite attraction/site/castle? Did you get made fun of for your accent? I'm from TN, so the southern accent is rather strong....Just what's your experiance there? I'm just really excited! |

Sher May is miles off yet. Anyway the Ring of Kerry is a beautiful sight. We've seen it many times and it always excites us.
Ireland is great except for the weather. We were hoping the global warming might improve things a bit but it hasn't. The people are great especially us country folk. We'll take great interest in where you're all from. Some people say it's because we're nosey but don't believe a bit of it.
Sher we love the southern accent. We've seen Deliverance so many times we could nearly make a good fist of the accent ourselves.
Sher you'll be grand!

The Irish are warm and welcoming to all visitors with a great sense of humour.
It is a beautiful country with many great places to see. I have included some websites for you to help choose which of the many attractions you want to see. |

Hi. I'm from Ireland, so this may be a little biased lol but heres my opinion...
First of all, the people. The Irish are extremely nice people. They are all very down to earth and enjoy a 'bit of craic (fun)', as they say lol If you don't come across are stuck up or anything like that, they'll love you and you'll have an amazing time! Just smile all the time and be merry.
No, you won't get made fun of due to your accent. We all know our accents are terrible so we wouldn't make fun of yours. A lot of people ill probably really love your accent in fact! If anyone does mention it or anything... don't get offended, just laugh along with them. They'll probably just do it to try and be funny.
Now for the other side. I have to be honest, and say that I personally don't enjoy the scenery here. I've lived here all my life and am so sick of 'rolling green hills' and sheep everywhere. Outside of Dublin, there isn't really much do to, so don't expect a crazy wild time like you could have in London/New York etc
In general, it's a nice place to come visit. I really hope you like your trip!! |

Have i been there? I live there!
I'm not big into our attractions, mostly cause you take your own for granted.
The Wicklow area is nice (just south of Dublin), there's a place called Glendalough which is lovely, ive been there a lot. Its a valley with a park and gorgeous views especially on the drive there.
There's a place called Hill of tara, don't know too much about it to be honest but it seem to be popular! |

Well, Ireland is like anywhere else when it comes to people. There's always going to be the occasional jerk. But most of the people are very nice and friendly. I've never gotten made fun of for my accent (I'm from New York state) and neither have any of my American friends traveling in Ireland. If you get the chance to talk much with the locals, they'll probably ask where you're from, why you're in Ireland, and whether or not you have Irish ancestry. The Ring of Kerry is pretty spectacular, and if your group gets the chance to go up to Trim (Co. Meath, not too too far from Dublin if I recall correctly) you should definitely take the castle tour there. It's really interesting.
Anyway, I like Ireland enough that I've been back 5 times and the fifth time involved me staying for four months. Email me if you want to ask or anything, I've been all over Ireland. |

The people in Ireland are very nice.
Actually, they love Americans.
When I went over, they were all like going crazy over me. :)
Dublin is very fun and exciting, but so are the beaches and countrysides, so check thoses out, too.
But be excited! Its really fun! :) |

The average age is 25. You really must have a guide because they need to tell you the stories of the sites otherwise all you will see is green hills and stone buildings with no back stories. It is a lovley country. Pay attention to the Bogs and Bog people, great history.
Enjoy |

Hey!
Im from Ireland, and first thing you have to realise is that we slag everyone off. Even each other. Even ourselves. I've seen some people from other countries taking offence at at this, but you shouldn't! And I like different accents.
If your looking for places to go, spend a few days in Dublin, and just wander around. Its really quite small. Go to Grafton street for shopping, visit the Guiness Brewery, travel by LUAS (and mock the government for thinking ''park and ride'' was a good slogan for ther tram system!) Get the dart to Dun Laoghaire and walk along the pier. Go to Bray (where I'm from, 40 mins outside Dublin) Its a big seaside town, full of rock sweets and icecream. Mmmmmm icecream.
Visit the Burren and Ailweee caves in Galway. Go to a ceili in the Gaeltacht region. Learn a few Irish phrases to impress the locals. Drink Guiness and lotsa tea! Bring a raincoat and a few umbrellas, cuz they will break in the wind or get blown into the sea.
Oh and in Dublin, visit Trinity (my college!) It rocks. We have a pretty cool science gallery. And I relaise I sound like a nerd, but it is cool, and anyone thats been there agrees!
Well, I cant think of much else. Basically wander around, go with the flow. Have fun!
What's TN?? |
