Two weeks in Ireland - suggested itinerary? |
My wife and I are planning to spend two weeks in Ireland in September. It will be our first time there.
We aren't sure how we should spend the time...i.e. how many days in Dublin, how many days in other areas, etc. We both love sightseeing, good restaurants, history/museums, and shopping. Also is it necessary for us to rent a car in order to visit the other areas outside of Dublin or can we avoid the hassle and take trains/buses?

Definitely spend a day or so in Dublin, then rent a car and take to the road. Don't worry about the driving, it's very easy. If you really want an experience drive straight out to the West and take a ferry to an island called Innishboffin. Its very quiet and isolated, with just a few hotels. My husband and I hiked to the other end of the island and had a picnic totally alone, looking at the sea and the seals on the rocks. Beautiful.
Other lovely places are Galway, Cork, Waterford (visit the factory), and Kilkenny. You can't not like Ireland. Its absolutely gorgeous. |

Dublin is good but if you want to really experience ireland for what its known go to the west. i would strongly suggest hiring a car as most rural areas don't have many public transport services. This website will give you great ideas of what to do. there is actually realy cheap car hire on there also.

Spend a great deal of time in Dublin, there is so much to see and do. But I totaly suggest going and traveling along the "ring of Kerry" the most beautiful spot and a historic spot is Valentia Island. I spent 3 days on the island, the locals are wonderful and more than happy to show you around. |

Visit the Cliffs of Moor. That is one of best places to check out. Dublin is fun but a little pricey, Galway is a happening city, and I had a great time there. Cork is kinda boring, but there are a few interesting things there (some castle). The bus system is easy but renting a car is a nice luxury if you can afford it. Go on the Guinness tour it is worth it. Also if you can check out a game of Hurling or a football game. Have fun, bring a umbrella. |

Come North. We have some of the nicest scenary in Ireland. Shopping is cheaper(you will need £ stirling to do this as we are still part of the UK) Many places take euro but they stick their arm in. |
