University College Dublin?

I know about the website, and i've poured over it a bit, but i would like to hear about it and what it's like from people who have attended or know about it (i.e.-lived somewhere nearby, had friends attend, etc...) Whats the environment like? How strict? to put it in perspective, what would be an American "equivalent" (i use this term loosely...) thank you!

I went there in the 90s and didn't like it at all, but that's because I was too young and hadn't a clue what I wanted from life or my college course. A friend of mine is doing a postgrad there now and loves it. As long as you are studying something you enjoy and are interested in it'll be fine. It has a big student population, so join a few clubs and societies to build up a good friend base, otherwise you might feel a bit lost. It's a good university with loads going on, and you're pretty much left to your own devices, so it's as strict as you make it yourself.

Well James Joyce went there but he spent most of his time out in the Martello Tower with that Buck Mulligan fella although sher didn't we all know it was a thinly disguised caricature of Oliver St John Gogarty.
Sher UCD is a grand oul place right enough.

My son went to UCD for four years doing engineering. He had barely turned 17 so was pretty young but he took to it like a duck to water and really enjoyed his four years. He had about five mates all doing the same course but he made a whole new group of friends. As for strictness well really when you go to Uni. here you're the master of your own destiny. No one's going to babysit you and tell you to buck up so you need to apply your own standards, get work in on time, attend lectures etc. You're an adult and treated as such. It's up to you to police yourself.Join the various clubs to give a wider circle of friends. He and his friends were very active in the students union. You'll enjoy it.Also the standard is high, it's a good University. He gained a first in Hons.Mech Eng.

Not the nicest of Irish universities. It's too big. NUI Galway and NUI Maynooth are much nicer in my opinion.

I had a great time there for 3 years in the late 1980s, but it has changed since then. The Dramatic Society is legendary!
