Where to start ? Dublin is a great city to visit, I love it my best friends live there so I go there a lot (I live further south) so... it really depends on what your interests are.
I used to take my kids and my friends kids (sadly no more as they have all grown up) on my own personal 'culture trip' this was just based around the city centre and within walking distance.
eg;
St. Steven's green - feed the ducks
then down to the National Art Gallery
back up past Dail Eireann back entrance to the dead zoo (Natural history museum) over to the next street (Kildare street) to the National Museum - now that is always worth a visit.
You then have to go back up to St. Steven's green and walk down Grafton Street - just to listen to the buskers.
Lunch in Eddie Rockets in O'Connell street then...
Up to Parnell Square and please visit the Municipal Art Gallery (an absolute must)
Visit the memorial garden in Parnell square see the sculpture of the Children of Lir and throw a penny (now a cent) in the pool - for luck.
Then bus it back home to my friends for a plate of Dublin Coddle.

and you could also go to

Dublin Zoo, Phoenix Park, the Hugh Lane gallery, St. Patrick's Cathederal, the guinness hop store, Oh and Moore Street, Henry Street for shopping, Talbot street.....god I could go on and on.

I think my friends used to be glad when I went home, mind you the kids slept for months afterwards !.

Travel from Belfast by train, quick and comfortable. Get on the tourist bus, that goes by all the historical sites, and you can hop on and off as it suits you, for a flat day rate - don't lose your ticket! I'm not sure if it takes in the Guinness brewery, but if you must drink that horse piss, I'm sure you'll find a way.

If you have the time and the weather permits, I'd also recommend getting on the DART and going from terminus to terminus. The views over the bay are great, and you could get out at Dun Laoghaire and walk all the way to the end of the pier, very bracing.

From Belfast the train..much quicker.

For Dublin the Viking Splash tour. It is so much fun,even for 18 year olds(i'm 18 and went on it last year). Your get to see all the sights but in a fun way!. After that just enjoy the centre of Dublin, it's got alot of cool trendy shops. I would recommend eating in Captain America's a well known burger place. Dublin's a lovely city, hope you like it!.
