Visiting Ireland. Any suggestions on what to see or where to go? |
We are honeymooning in Ireland and France. We will be in Ireland for four days. Flying into Shannon and Flying out of Dublin. We will be driving across and seeing things along the way. Do you have any advice on what to see or what to skip? We aren't into drinking and stuff. We like sightseeing. I'm also a photographer so anywhere that would make beautiful pictures would be GREAT!! Thanks!!
Oh, btw, we will be visiting in October if that matters! Additional Details Yeah, I dont think I'll be kissing it. I heard locals pee on it! LMAO |

I think its great you will be visiting both the East and the West....you'll get to see both "worlds" of Ireland
You are flying to the West first so you'll have a great chance to experience "old" ireland,.
....I think you should visit County Clare
i have family who live in a town there called Ballyvaughan....and its absolutely beautiful
There, i think your best bet is to stay in a thatched cottage and visit the little pubs and restaraunts by the sea - theres often live music.
Theres also lots of cool scenic things there too.
The burren (take a look at the Dolmens, theyre incredible!), the Ailwee caves, The cliffs of Moher.
Theres also a "birds of Prey" sanctuary near the Burren - worth a visit.
In Lisdoonvarna (Clare) i think, theres a nice aquarium and if you want to do some shopping you can go to Ennis.
The people are SO friendly there and so proud of the County- the accents are crazy too lol.
Also, in comparison to most places in Ireland (such as Dublin), the west is a lot cheaper.
East!!!!!
When you are in Dublin! ;
You can visit Dublin Castle
The Four Courts
Trinity College (with the book of Kells)
the Dublin Spire is on O'Connells Street (extremely overated but very tall lol)
Depending what youre into, theres lot of museums and art galleries such as the National Gallery and the Irish Museum Of Modern Art.
(as already mentioned) there are some great bus tours
Phoenix Park
Grafton Street/Henry Street (for shopping!) - theres a cool vegetarian cafe called "Nude" near there too lol
Im from Wicklow (which is just south of Dublin (40 mins from the centre by DART (train))
Its just south of Dublin (so on the East coast) but very pretty and scenic and the "garden of Ireland"
its really nice here also, and i recommend it.
To visit, there is the sugarloaf (wicklow mountains). Theres two actually - the great sugarloaf and the mini sugarloaf....The views are incredible and i think you'd love it
If you've ever seen "P.S I love you"....that is where the "ireland" of the film is shot.
Also, in Wicklow, you could visit Powerscourt Gardens or Powerscourt Waterfall. These are in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow and VERY worth a visit on a nice day
Also, in Enniskerry (i dont know your budget ;() but the Ritz-Carlton hotel is newly opened and its incredible.
Glendalough....is a national Park is Wicklow - its huge and incredibly beautiful....theres a round tower, ancient graveyard, stone circle and several lakes
I insist you go there if you are in to photography lol
Congratulations on your engagement, i hope you have a great holiday here!!!!!!!!!!! |

first of all locals do not pee on the blarney stone! dont know where you got that one from! weird...
but you should defo come to waterford. there's lots of sights to see, its a very picturesque city/country. look up www.waterfordtourism.org it'll have more info. there's a beautiful coastline, beaches (woodstown beach is lovely for picture) mountains, valleys, rivers, monuments, the cathedral, the marina...the list goes on! have a look at the website and then google the places if you want to see some pictures, its really nice here.
hope i helped |

Chair and Cashel. Kilkenny. Clonmacnoise.
What might be a good idea is to see if there are still festivals on locally, for some really great photo opportunities. If you google 'Festivals in Ireland' you'll find some, but I'm not so sure about October. If you're here for Hallowe'en, there might be some more possibilities. |

Use Limerick as your base for a day or so(right beside Shannon) . Great City. Voyage from there up to Clare (stop in at Bunratty Castle en route)and the Burren and Galway(have oysters and guinness at "Morans of the Weir" in Clarinbridge on the way to Galway.. And the next day do the "ring of Kerry"(must do for photographers.)
In Cork, go to Fota Island and see the wonderful gardens.
On the way to Dublin, stay at the "Kilashee House Hotel "in Naas- wonderfully historic buildings and gardens.
In Dublin - Trinity College is the most beautiful place to see but you might also take a trip to The National Art Gallery and have a walk around St. Stephen's Green. Try Powerscourt too. |

If your flying into Shannon than your near the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren, stay around that area (Ballyvaughan/ Lisdoonvarna or Doolin) before heading up to Galway city. Take a trip out to the Aran Islands, or out to Clifden from Galway city, then head to Dublin itself.
In Dublin you can see the Book of Kells, you can do a tour of Georgian Dublin or literary tour, Joyce, Yeats, Wilde, Becket and many more are all from Dublin. You'll have a great time.
Cork and Kerry are beautiful, as the others suggested, but Co Clare is an overlooked gem in my opinion. I'm from Dublin myself. |

http://www.viator.com/tours/Ireland/The-Dublin-Pass/d56-2032DUB_PASS < -- This gives you a basic rundown of things to do in Ireland.
The Guinness house, Dublin Zoo, Croke Park, Wicklow Jail , Kilmanen Jail and the GPO which is a post office with a great historical significance to it are great things to see.
You could go down to Cork and See the Blarney Stone. The myth is If you kiss it you’ll never shut up!
For the scenery I like the Wicklow mountains.--- > http://www.gsi.ie/NR/rdonlyres/6CC9C746-1FC5-44E3-891E-A71EEDFDE99B/0/sugarloaf.jpg
Also in Wicklow, are the Sugarloaf mountains. They’re very beautiful too.-- > http://www.lookaroundireland.com/counties/wicklow/sugarloaf.htm
In Dublin, The best night life is definitely in Temple Bar. It’s big, It’s modern and It’s expensive while it has loads of history and culture to it too.
If you want a relaxing, quiet holiday in the country or enjoy the scenery, then any parts of the country will do it for you really like Donegal, Galway, Clare, Mayo etc.
If you want a shopping, busy, touristy holiday then anywhere (or most places) in Dublin will do it for you.
A town in Kerry (the South of Ireland, It’s beside Cork too) called Tralee is very touristy. It is the largest town in Ireland.
It has many attractions and loads of shops and a great night life.
It’s great for young people and people with small families. It suits everyone.
It has an aqua dome swimming pool which is always packed and outside the pool, You can play crazy Golf.
Here is a site on Tralee: http://www.tralee-insight.com/
Killarney is another county which caters a lot for tourists. It has good Castles if you’re into that and it has a lovely countryside and the sea is nice there too. Here is a website on Tourism in Killarney--- > http://killarney-ireland.info/
The People in Ireland, in my opinion are an extremely welcoming race. I think this because I have went to other countries from a young age on exchanges, holidays with college etc. and I thought no one was as hospitable as the Irish.
Here are some sights on Tourism in Ireland:
